“Avengers” star Scarlett Johansson said the organizing body behind the awards needs “structural reform.”
One of Hollywood’s most prominent film and television awards has nowhere to be broadcast next year.
The US television network NBC announced on Monday that it will not broadcast the ceremony of the Golden Globes, after a controversy involving the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), in charge of the award.
The HFPA was singled out earlier this year by the lack of diversity among its members and for some behaviors that generated ethical questions.
The decision came despite the fact that the HFPA recently voted in favor of drastically transform its structure and rules.
“We continue to believe that the HFPA is committed to significant reform,” NBC said in a statement.

Comedians Tina Fey and Amy Poehler entertained the last edition of the gala on February 28.
The network has broadcast the awards on television since 1996, according to the newspaper Los Angeles Times.
“However – the writing continues – un change of this magnitude it takes time and work, and we strongly feel that the HFPA needs time to get it right. “
The network said it hopes that the organization executes its plan and then the talks will resume to broadcast the program in 2023.
The Golden Globes have been around for 78 years.
Why are the Golden Globes being criticized?
In terms of visibility and promotion, the Golden Globes are the most important ceremony after the Oscar, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of the United States.
But its organizers have been accused of discriminatory practices and accept “gifts” by productions that later obtain nominations.
In February, Los Angeles Times revealed that there were no black members among the select 87 voters who are in charge of the nominations.
This week, the HFPA presented a reform package that calls for expanding membership by 50% over the next 18 months and hiring diversity consultants.

The association also voted in favor of greater transparency and stricter admission rules.
“The overwhelming results of the consultation to transform the Association reaffirms our commitment to change“HFPA President Ali Sar said in a statement Thursday.
What responses has the reform proposal generated?
Many high-profile figures have expressed that the initiatives are not enough.
Actress Scarlett Johansson was one of the last to join the criticism and said the organization needs a “structural reform”.
Johansson, who has been nominated for the award five times, urged other members of the film industry to boycott the organization until significant internal changes occur.

The Golden Globes have existed for 78 years.
The interpreter exposed having been subjected to “sexist questions and comments by certain members of the HFPA who touched on the sexual harassment“.
Johansson’s colleague in success AvengersMark Ruffalo, who spoke in support, said the reforms were “discouraging.”
In the meantime, Netflix Y Amazon Studios announced that they would stop doing business with the HFPA until they move forward with their change plans.
WarnerMedia, for its part, urged the association to accelerate the reforms, as the proposed 18-month period “will impact the next two nomination and voting cycles.”
After the report of the LA Times, more than 100 public relations firms in Hollywood threatened to tell their clients not to work with the HFPA until changes are seen.
They accused the group of “discriminatory behavior, lack of professionalism, ethical dishonesty and alleged corruption.”
The HFPA declined to respond to a request for an interview from the BBC.
