Future Netflix releases are likely to come out in theaters first, and that may not appeal to many subscribers to the service.
If you have an account Netflix I’m sure you’re enjoying the latest releases on series and movies that this streaming entertainment service offers you, some series and movies, most of them original, that you can view exclusively without having to go to the cinema to see the premiere, something that could change over time.
And it is that for the first time in history, a movie of Netflix will be seen before in theaters and you will not be able to view it on your bill of Netflix until no less than a month has passed, something that surely most subscribers do not like but that could set a precedent in the face of the problems that the company is having to be profitable.
And it is that in particular it will be the movie Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (sequel to Daggers in the Back), which will be released first in theaters in the United States, Canada and many countries in Europe, including Spain, to later reach the streaming service a month later.
Netflix has thus announced that Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will be in 600 theaters in the United States during the week of November 23 to 29, the first film to debut in the three largest theater chains in the United States such as AMC, Regal and Cinemark.
Many of these chains also have rooms in other territories such as Europe, and for example in Ireland, Italy, Germany and Spain, in selected cinemas, the film can also be seen before its arrival on Netflix.
If you don’t want to spend money on going to the movies, you’ll have to wait. until December 23 when Netflix takes it to its service and you can view it.
“We believe that both exhibitors and streamers can continue to coexist successfully. Theaters will make more money by having more titles to show, and thanks to the greater cultural resonance those movies can get from a theatrical release, they’ll end up being shown to a larger audience when they’re also brought to streaming platforms.”, says the CEO of AMC, adam aron.
How this change affects your Netflix account
Although it seems like a specific agreement, it could not be ruled out that in the future Netflix will do the same thing again with a great exclusive release, premiering it first in theaters and then bringing it to its platform.
With this, Netflix would lose one of the reasons for its existence, which is to allow its subscribed users to view, exclusively, from the first day, original content, without it having been previously released in other places such as the cinema.
The fact that a great Netflix movie is first in theaters can end up spoiling the viewing experience for many users who do not want their long-awaited movie to be seen before on another platform such as the big screen, where they will have to pay to see her at her premiere.
The original Daggers in the Back movie was released in 2019 and grossed $311 million internationally on a budget of just $40 million.
