Nevada in New York and New Jersey: What to do to protect yourself



In the last hours significant temperature drops have been recorded in the New York tri-state area, which caused a heavy snowfall in the state in the early hours of this Friday, January 7, being the first winter storm of the year.

Climate experts indicated that this storm left between 2 and 5 inches of snow and it could be that the snowfall continues on this day, with the possibility of extending into the weekend.

The light snow will develop inland and gradually spread to the city and most of the eastern suburbs.

The local authorities issued some warnings for the population to protect itself from bad weather, among them trying to avoid driving on the road, as well as not making trips if they are not necessary; some flights also had to be canceled.

Here are some tips that you can follow to be safe and protected during this and the next snowfalls that come to register.

What to do to protect yourself from a snowfall

Do not go near the power line if it has fallen. If you pass near one, think that it has current. Do not try to move it, or touch it with any object. Remember that this can be hidden in the snow, the branches of the trees, between the leaves or the water. It is best to call the authorities to report the problem.

In case it falls on your car, while you are inside it, do not get out of your vehicle and call the emergency services for help.

In case of power outages, unplug or turn off all appliancess that might turn on automatically when service is restored. If multiple appliances are turned on at the same time, the electrical circuits are likely to be overloaded.

Try to charge your cell phone and other devices at times when you have light at home.
