Newcastle vs Manchester City LIVE: Premier League latest score and goal updates as Miguel Almiron equalises

Guardiola confirms no plans to rest players ahead of World Cup

Follow live updates as Newcastle host Manchester City in the Premier League this afternoon with Pep Guardiola’s side looking to extend their winning start to the season. The champions have opened with impressive victories over West Ham and Bournemouth, scoring six goals without reply. Erling Haaland got off the mark on his Premier League debut but was denied in the 4-0 win against Bournemouth last weekend, so he will be looking to put down another marker early in his City career.

City face a confident and optimistic Newcastle side whose season under Eddie Howe has started off with a home victory against Nottingham Forest and a draw at Brighton. Nick Pope was key to extending their unbeaten start in securing the 0-0 draw on the south coast and the goalkeeper is set for another busy afternoon against City, who will look to match Arsenal and join Mikel Arteta’s side at the top of the table by making it three wins out of three.

36′ – Newcastle 1-1 Man City

Almost goals at both ends! Botman first with a horrid error, but then a very good recovery. A cross comes to the Dutch defender and his attempted header bounces straight to Gundogan who can rifle in a half-volley – but Botman has already stretched out a massive leg to stop the shot at close quarters.

Then a ball down the left channel again sees Almiron racing in, Ederson has come miles out of his area and Almiron touches it past him – but Cancelo has read the play brilliantly and makes a fine recovery tackle.

32′ – Newcastle 1-1 Man City

Man City look a bit shocked at the moment – they are unable to deal with the speed of Newcastle in attacking down the flanks. They can, however, cause an awful lot of problems for the Magpies themselves – Foden almost gets in down the left, until Guimaraes comes over to block and help clear.

Rodrigo gets fed up with Saint-Maximin dribbling past everyone and produces a very cynical rake of the ankle. He’s a bit fortunate to escape a yellow there.

GOAL! 28′ – Newcastle 1-1 Man City

The goal stands!! One replay is all it took-Almiron was never offside from Saint-Maximin’s cross and the unmarked attacker was falling as he touches the ball in de el with his thigh de el, in past Ederson and it’s 1-1.

Fully deserved too after their response to falling behind.

Saint-Maximin excellent in the build-up.

27′ – Newcastle 0-1 Man City

Another half-chance for Newcastle as Botman’s header off a corner reaches Wilson, but his snapshot is into the ground and saved. The offside flag goes up against him too actually.

Moments later Almiron flies in and bundles the ball into the back of the net – cue massive celebrations, but they are immediately cut short as the offside flag goes up!

26′ – Newcastle 0-1 Man City

Newcastle really pushing for an equalizer here. Ederson is called into action to beat out a strike, Saint-Maximin firing in the effort after Dias’ lax pass is cut out. The home crowd roared in response to urge their team to continue the semi-onslaught.

Joelinton wins back possession again and Wilson curls in a strike – deflected wide.

22′ – Newcastle 0-1 Man City

Yellow card for Cancelo somewhere along the line there. Nick Pope is called upon again to palm away a De Bruyne free-kick.

Straight up the other end Newcastle again get in behind Walker and Almiron this time crosses low for Wilson – he can’t quite get on the end of it and Cancelo’s there to clear.

An early enforced change for Guardiola: Nathan Ake is going off and it’s Ruben Dias who comes on for him.

18′ – Newcastle 0-1 Man City

What a huge chance for Almiron. Joelinton and Saint-Maximin to brilliantly create space and the latter cuts it back for Almiron…who leans back and blazes his shot absolutely miles off-target.

Some joy down the flanks for the Magpies early on, but they’ll have to make the most of these chances.

16′ – Newcastle 0-1 Man City

Joelinton clatters Gundogan – the City captain is wreaking havoc in these early stages.

No booking this time but another set piece for the visitors, who look like carving Newcastle open with every attack at the moment.

The free-kick is well-defended but Foden has a shooting chance soon after, again saved by Pope and his feet.

12′ – Newcastle 0-1 Man City

Haaland frees De Bruyne and it looks very much as though he may stride through to double the lead – but one touch is slightly wayward and his shot is awkward as a result. Pope saves with his feet from him and Newcastle escape.

Gundogan then nearly tees up Haaland but his attempted shot is mis-hit.

9′ – Newcastle 0-1 Man City

Guimaraes fouls De Bruyne as the Belgian skips past him in midfield and it’s an early yellow card for the Newcastle midfielder. Pretty well justified, he was never going for the ball.

City quickly into their rhythm here and spreading play wide to create angles at every opportunity.

That was the first goal Newcastle have conceded this season, by the way.
