NFL Week 8 Pick ’em Pool Picks – Tips, Strategy
How We Identify Week 8 NFL Value Picks
This article was written on Wednesday, but if the picks’ odds of winning and popularity numbers hold up, the teams below provide attractive tradeoffs between risk and reward to differentiate their Week 8 picks from their opponents in the pool.
It is important to note that we are not necessarily saying that you should do everybody of these selections. In particular, some pesky picks can be unnecessarily risky for your group, even if they’re technically underrated. You should take a general level of risk with your picks that is appropriate for your group size and rules. All season pools often require more conservative selections than single week pools. If you want our game-by-game selection recommendations for everyone your specific pools, use our Football Pick ’em Picks Product.

Indianapolis Colts vs. Tennessee Titans
Point difference: +1.0
Choose popularity: 18%
Category: Unpopular release
The Titans are coming off impressive back-to-back victories against the Bills and Chiefs. They already beat the Colts this year too. So while the objective winning odds are closer to even game, the public is heavily opting for Tennessee here.
By picking the Colts, you get a lot of value out of the pot odds in weekly contests and some diversity from your opponents in groups throughout the season in what is basically a draw.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Seattle Seahawks
Point difference: +3.0
Choose popularity: 12%
Category: Value Gamble in weekly contests
The Jaguars are just a three-point underdog in Seattle, but the crowd is casting this one as Russell Wilson at quarterback. News Flash: It is not.
Geno Smith and the Seattle offense have struggled since Wilson’s injury, and Wilson is closer as a result. Jacksonville has a decent chance of causing an upset, but few innings are choosing that outcome.
San Francisco 49ers at Chicago Bears
Point difference: -3.5
Choose popularity: 59%
Category: Favorite value
It feels like an open season in the media about San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan. The 49ers fell to 2-4 with their loss to the Colts on Sunday Night Football and have now lost four straight games.
Chicago also looked terrible last week, but its loss to Tampa Bay didn’t happen in primetime. Here you have the best team as the favorite, while the public is more divided. That makes San Francisco a solid value play this week.

Arizona Cardinals vs. Green Bay Packers
Point difference: -6.5
Choose popularity: 75%
Category: Biggest favorite at a reasonable price
The line for this game has been moved due to the news of COVID-19, as Packers star WR Davante Adams is among those on the Green Bay list who could be left out. This game opened with Arizona favored by 3.5 points, but has since gone up three more points. If the public takes notice, this popularity number may rise, but that is no guarantee for Thursday.
There have been 17 teams favored by between 5.5 and 6.5 points in the first seven weeks, and the average pick popularity for that group is 91 percent. New Orleans last week against Seattle was the only other with a pick popularity below 83 percent.
As another example of Arizona’s value here, the two teams closest to it are the Chargers (89 percent popularity) and the Bucs (93 percent popularity). Both teams are slightly behind the Cardinals in winning odds at the moment. Stick with Arizona for Thursday’s primetime showdown.
Philadelphia Eagles at Detroit Lions
Point difference: -3.5
Choose popularity: 58%
Category: Favorite value
The Eagles are coming off a disappointing performance in Las Vegas, while the Lions again kept him close to a good team as a big underdog. But right now, he’s getting enough value here, and the Eagles are a huge favorite, so sticking with them is the rough move.
As another indication, three teams less favored than the Eagles are currently gaining about 80 percent popularity among the teams (Dallas, Atlanta and Tennessee).
