Nicole Hazen, the wife of Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen, died Thursday due to complications related to a rare form of brain cancer. She was 45.

Hazen was the mother of four boys, a passionate middle school teacher and a devoted “baseball mother and wife,” Mike Hazen said.

During the summer of 2020, after she began to have seizures, she was found to have an aggressive tumor in the front left portion of her brain. It ultimately was diagnosed as glioblastoma, an aggressive and incurable form of cancer.

Even after beginning to undergo surgeries and various treatments, she remained on as an English teacher at St. Francis Xavier in Phoenix through the end of 2021.

“That’s what drove her,” Mike Hazen said. “That’s who she was. She would do anything for the kids and do anything for her kids. That’s how she lived her whole life is for the kids.”
