A North Carolina State Highway Patrol officer died after being run over by his brother, who is also a policeman during a traffic stop, authorities reported Tuesday.
Officer James N. Horton was on his way to help with a traffic stop being made by his brother, John S. Horton on Monday night.
As he approached the scene of the traffic stop, James lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the patrol car where his brother was, hitting both him and the driver he had stopped while they were standing on the side of the road. reported local Sgt. Chris Knox.
Following the impact of the vehicle, the driver identified as Dusty Luke Beck, was pronounced dead in the game, while John Horton, a 15-year veteran of service assigned to Rutherford County, He was taken to a hospital in Spartanburg, South Carolina and died moments later.Knox added.
For his part, James Horton was taken to a hospital to receive treatment for minor injuries, but was discharged after being treated.

Meanwhile, the Governor of North Carolina, Roy Cooper, regretted what happened and sent condolences to his family and friends.

So far, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the accident., and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol Collision Reconstruction Unit is also assisting in the investigation.
