NY Rangers preparing for extended absence of Barclay Goodrow

TARRYTOWN — The most amazing part about Barclay Goodrow’s lower-body injury – which is believed to be a broken left ankle, two people with knowledge of the situation told lohud.com, part of the USA TODAY Network – is that he played roughly four periods on it.

The injury is believed to have occurred while extending his leg to block a shot from Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Mike Matheson at the 3:39 mark in the second period of Game 1 of the New York Rangers’ first-round playoff series on Tuesday, with the 29-year-old forward gutting his way through 20 additional shifts after that.

That speaks to Goodrow’s toughness and commitment to winning, which is precisely why team president Chris Drury made acquiring him one of his top offseason priorities last summer.
