Oracle Cloud Infrastructure expands its service offering

OCI Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) has expanded with 11 new compute, networking, and storage services and capabilities that enable customers to run their workloads faster and more securely at lower cost. With this expansion, Oracle intends to provide customers with access to a broad spectrum of core infrastructure services that are flexible and allow them to automatically optimize resources to suit application requirements while simultaneously lowering costs. significant.

Global cloud adoption continues to expand rapidly as business models transform and demand for secure remote technology accelerates. However, a number of misconceptions about the public cloud continue to prevent companies from reaping its full benefits. For example, it is widely believed that customers have to rewrite their applications for the cloud and deal with complex pricing models to take advantage of cloud computing. In addition, many organizations believe that they will face a series of technology decisions as they scale their operations. With this announcement, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure offers customers even more simplicity and flexibility to make scaling easy and affordable, of course without the need to rewrite applications.

“OCI continues to break the rules of the cloud, helping customers run their workloads faster, more securely and more economically,” says Clay Magouyrk, executive vice president, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. “Customers can build cloud-native applications on OCI with support for Kubernetes, while AI and high-performance computing customers can build some of the fastest computing clusters in the cloud.“.

OCI brings more innovations in computing, networking and storage

OCI Compute offers customers the option to deploy on virtual machines or on bare metal. instances bare metal OCI solutions deliver high performance to enterprise applications, providing customers with maximum control and isolation. Flexible virtual machines allow customers to maximize the total cost of ownership of their workloads with features such as flexible memory, sub-core CPUs and instances. predictable, allowing them to adjust and take advantage of the elasticity of computing to consume only what they need. The ability to scale within a compute instance, as well as scale out by adding more instances, enables customers to gain elasticity without rewriting their applications and reduces the risk and cost of cloud migration. New services include:

  • Container instances: It allows customers to use containers without directly managing the virtual machine or requiring Kubernetes orchestration. OCI takes care of creating the instance with a secure image of the operating system, network, and storage.
  • AMD E4.Dense compute instances: enables workloads that benefit from NVMe drives, which provide low-latency storage. This includes database workloads (for example, relational databases, NoSQL databases), direct-attached virtualized storage, caching, and data warehousing.
  • Oracle Cloud VMware Solution on AMD: offers customers new AMD-based 32-, 64-, and 128-core options, providing them with industry-leading VM deployment density options per SDDC host to accommodate CPU-intensive or memory-intensive usage. OCI offers more than two and a half times more memory and CPU per host than other offerings.

With this announcement, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure offers customers even more simplicity and flexibility

OCI Networking helps customers securely connect to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure’s virtual cloud network (VCN) and dynamically create isolated and secure environments for their workloads. All necessary capabilities, including application firewalls, load balancing, and peering have been streamlined to simplify provisioning and management. In addition, flexible load balancing across the stack of the network allows customers to optimize their performance and their costs. As a result, OCI Networking can handle network workloads on a global scale at some of the lowest costs in the market. New services and capabilities include:

  • Interconnection with Content Delivery Network (CDN): establishes connections peering with select third-party CDN providers, to offer free outbound bandwidth for OCI object storage. The costs origin-to-CDN they are a significant part of total CDN costs and OCI is dramatically reducing them for customers, even for third-party CDNs. OCI currently offers this capability in North America for Cloudflare CDN.
  • Service for Content Delivery Network (CDN): enables customers to deliver digital content to end users from a nearby location on a geographically distributed network. Customers benefit from built-in APIs, console, UCM billing, and stronger integrations between OCI Object Storage, Compute, and CDN to reduce egress fees origin-server-to-CDN.
  • Flexible Web Application Firewall (WAF): Allows customers to define a single WAF policy to protect applications from exploit most common (for example, OWASP Top 10) and apply it to your load balancer or Edge.
  • Web Application Acceleration (WAA): supports caching and compression of web HTTP responses on the load balancer.
  • Network Visualizer: allows customers to perform a configuration-based connectivity check and view the network path(s) along with information about the virtual network entities in the path. This helps customers identify and fix the most common virtual network configuration errors.
  • vTAP: enables out-of-band OCI Network packet capture and inspection for easy troubleshooting, security analysis, and data monitoring without impacting performance.

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Storage offers customers high-performance, low-cost storage options in the cloud for object, file, block, and archive storage. A single type of block volume supports all types of workloads, from the lowest cost to the highest performance, and is reconfigurable on the fly without interruption during loads. This results in a flexible service that can serve even the highest SLA business applications but at up to 95% less cost than other cloud offerings. New services and capabilities include:

  • Flexible block volumes with automatic tuning based on performance: enables customers to change the performance characteristics of block storage volumes automatically in response to changes in demand. This is a unique capability in today’s cloud market that helps customers meet peak demand automatically, and helps reduce storage costs when demand is low.
  • High Availability ZFS: Packages the ZFS file server in a stack high-availability automated deployment, which uses OCI block volumes for the underlying raw storage.
