The UConn Huskies announced Tuesday that second-year guard Paige Bueckers will miss a time after breaking a bone in her leg.
The reigning National Player of the Year got off to another great start to this season, averaging 21.2 points, 6.2 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 2.7 steals in her first six games. As a result, UConn owned a 5-1 record, ranking No. 3 in the country only behind NC State (No. 2) and South Carolina (No. 1).
How long will he be without his star guard? Here’s everything you need to know about Buecker’s injury.
What is Paige Bueckers injury?
Bueckers suffered a tibial plateau fracture in his left knee with less than a minute left to play in UConn’s game against Notre Dame on Sunday, December 5.
The sophomore star had continued his dominant game to start the season, going for 22 points, five steals, four rebounds and four assists in 39 minutes of action, putting UConn in position for a dominant victory before suffering the injury.
How long will Paige Bueckers be gone?
UConn announced Tuesday that the All-American will be out for approximately six to eight weeks.
If he appears on the shorter side of that timeline, Bueckers would miss roughly 11 games. If his recovery falls on the longer side of that timeline, Bueckers could miss as many as 16 (or more) games.
As the Rachel Bachman of Wall Street Journal mentioned, the NCAA Tournament is in approximately 14 weeks, which means the return of tournament time is not out of the box for the reigning National Player of the Year.
