The winners of the 18th PalmaVela are: Galateia (IRC/IMA Maxi Yachts), Pez de Abril (ClubSwan 42), Urbania (ORC 0-1), Elena Nova (ORC 2), Lady (ORC 3), Immac Fram (ORC 4-5), Kyo V (ORC A2), Dorsia Coviran (J80), Powwow (Dragon), and January Sails (Spirit of Tradition).

Invincible Galateia

The last test for the largest of the fleet, the IRC/IMA Maxi, was a 30-mile (almost 66 km) coastal regatta with a double pass through Illetas and Cala Figuera. One more day, the Wally Centro Galateia has set the pace for the fleet, achieving its sixth partial victory out of a total of six contested races, a full-fledged “15th”.

The Wally Cento Magic Carpet 3 also set a good pace, however the breakage of the spinnaker (one of the sails used on courses with the wind in favor) relegated him to fifth place on the coast, a fact that the Italian did not miss. Bullit, a Wally 93 from 2018 who has been in the fight for the podium from day one.

Armed and skippered by Andrea Recordati, today he signed a hard-fought second position, moving up one position in the general classification to finish second followed by Sir Lidnsay Owen-Jones’ Magic Carpet 3, which includes the Spaniards Carlos Hernández, Carlos Ruigómez, Miguel Jáuregui and Juan Meseguer among his crew.

April Fish at ClubSwan 42

Exciting day for the ClubSwan 42s. Since the first day of racing, on Thursday, the general classification of this class has been very even with Pedro Vaquer’s Nadir (CVP Andratx) always at the top but relentlessly feeling the pressure from Pez de April, by José Mª Meseguer.

What happened today on the regatta course would be decisive in the general classification. In addition to the fight between Pez de Abril and Nadir, a third party was added in contention, the German Dralion, who on the first day could not compete due to the indisposition of one of his crew members but as soon as he touched the regatta field in the bay of Palma He did not stop improving with each round, even winning the first one today.

In any case, Pez de Abril did not fail. He went from less to more, second in the first round of the day, winner in the second and winner of the 18th PalmaVela, while Nadir could not go beyond a 4-3 run that did not allow him to defend the title he won last year.

Its owner and skipper, José Mª Meseguer, recognized that “It has been a very complete regatta in which we have had all kinds of winds. It’s been gorgeous, we’ve done all the heats and the hard part has been keeping up. We have been able to go from less to more, improving more and more as a team and that is what has made the difference”declared.

Urbania, champion in ORC 0-1. Elena Nova, in ORC 2

Winner of the 24.6-mile (almost 46 km) coastal regatta disputed today, the CN El Balís Urbania boat has managed to regain the leadership that the Aifos 500 took from it yesterday and is proclaimed winner of the 18th PalmaVela in ORC 0-1 . Congratulations to our rivals, Aifos 500 and Brujo, with whom we have fought day after day until finally we had the great luck of taking the victory. It was a very close regatta”.

The ORC 2-3 class has today done a Windward-Leeward test that has been won by a boat that was not on the podium yesterday, M8 (RCN Valencia). However, this victory was not enough to beat Christian Plump’s Elena Nova (RCNP), who today went out on the water with an advantage of four points over the second and six over the third.

The second regatta of the day for the ORC 2-3 had to be annulled due to a 90º roll at the end of the hour limit, as happened to the ORC 3 class, in which Nicolás González’s Lady confirmed its clear leadership -four tests, first four- and proclaimed himself, unbeatable, the winner of the 18th PalmaVela.

“The performance of the boat has been excellent, we made four first and very comfortable boats and that there were well-prepared boats,” said its owner and skipper. “The key has been that we have a good crew, we have been sailing together for a long time and we really wanted to sail.”
