The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, promised to promote a law that will prohibit prostitution in the country, and alleged that this practice “Enslaves” to women.

This claim was proposed by Sánchez during a speech held on Sunday at the closing of the 40th Federal Congress of the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE).

“A commitment comes out of this congress that I will carry out. We will move forward by abolishing prostitution that enslaves women in our country “said the president during the congress held in the city of Valencia.

One of the main objectives in light of these statements will be to eradicate human trafficking, which was defined by the president of the Valencian Generalitat, Ximo Puig as a “Symbol of perversion of slavery”, which in his words, can not be allowed “in any decent country,” he reviewed The vanguard.

In Spain, sexual exploitation and pimping are currently illegal; however, prostitution is not regulated by mandate.

In addition, in Spain there is a large number of brothels that usually work both in hotels and in other places of accommodation, although it is not considered as a “current” employment.

Likewise, activist groups have affirmed that the legal situation of prostitution in Spain has nurtured the demand for women who have been victims of trafficking.

It is also contemplated that clients or premises who are involved in prostitution cases can be legally punished.

But in order to pass this law that would outlaw prostitution, other laws at the state level will need to be modified, in a text that emphasizes that punishing pimping is the formula to end the greatest violation of the human rights of women and children, reported AFP.

According to a survey carried out in 2009 by the Center for Sociological Research, one in three men in Spain has paid to have sex at least once in their life.

The text emphasizes that punishing pimping is the formula to end the greatest violation of the human rights of women and children.

Prior to the general consultation held in 2019, the PSOE had published a manifesto that spoke about the situation of women, where they already proposed the outlawing of prostitution, cataloged as “One of the cruelest aspects of the feminization of poverty, and one of the worst forms of violence against women.”
