Prime Video completely redesigns its application: this is the new interface

In the world of video on demand (VOD, for its acronym in English) we find more and more alternatives to watch series, movies or documentaries. One of them is Prime Video, the streaming platform with which Amazon intends to compete with giants such as Netflix, HBO Max and Disney +. The main attraction of this proposal is that it is included in Amazon Prime, which offers free shipping on some products and other advantages for subscribers.

In recent years we have seen how Prime Video has jumped on the bandwagon of original productions to improve its content catalog. Now, the streaming service is improving another very important aspect: its user interface. And, far from making subtle changes, as we have been able to verify in a virtual event that we have attended, a commitment has been made to make a complete app redesign. Let’s see what’s new.

Prime Video renews its interface and user experience

The new Prime Video does not lose its essence, but it is renewed with a more modern and intuitive design. The main novelty is the new navigation menu. We now have Home, Store, Search, Live TV (not currently available in the UK), Free with Ads, and My Stuff. On classroom devices these pages will be displayed on the left side of the screen.

In addition, we will have submenus with more categories. For example, in Home we will find Movies, TV Shows and Sports. In Store, which groups all the content that is not included in our subscription, it will show Channels or Rent to buy. That is, from there we can explore and buy or rent additional content.

The new Prime Video also has personalized cards that collect the most viewed content of the service and what is trending. In addition, the section that includes featured titles such as Amazon Originals and Prime Video Cinema has been redesigned. In all cases we can see a small preview of the content before starting to play it full screen.

And we also find other more discreet improvements, such as the one on the search page. This has been redesigned to show suggestions as you type and allow easy filtering of results by genre or 4K UHD quality. These will also clearly indicate which content is included in the subscription and which can be purchased or rented separately.

If you’re wondering how long this revamped UI will come, the good news is that you won’t have to wait much longer. This week it will be available on living room devices (including Fire TV) and on Android. However, all those who use Prime Video on the web and on iOS will have to wait a little longer. It will arrive in the coming months, according to Amazon.
