This weekend Procter & Gamble, one of the large multinationals worldwide and that markets all kinds of products related to personal care and hygiene, reported that has decided to voluntarily recall more than 30 shampoos and conditioners.

Procter & Gamble indicated that said action was carried out after a rigorous inspection benzene will be found in various company products.

Let us remember that there are various studies that affirm that benzene is a carcinogenic substance and that humans can develop this disease after prolonged exposure to it.

What is benzene, the dangerous substance found in Procter & Gamble shampoos

According to the National Cancer Institute of the United States, benzene is a liquid chemical substance, colorless or light yellow when it is at room temperature. It is mainly used as a solvent in the chemical industry and in the pharmaceutical industry, as an initial and intermediate product in the synthesis of numerous chemical substances, and in gasoline.

Benzene is produced in both natural and man-made processes. It is a natural component of crude oil, which is the main source of benzene produced today. Other natural sources are gas emissions from volcanoes and forest fires.

Humans are generally exposed to benzene by breathing air that contains the chemical. Perhaps it is the employees of the industries that produce or use it who are most exposed to the highest levels of this chemical.

Benzene can be found in cigarettes, glues, cleaning products, and some other paint removers.

Exposure to benzene could increase the risk of developing leukemia and other blood diseases.

In addition to the fact that benzene is related to some types of cancer, also if there is direct exposure to the eyes, skin or lungs, it can cause injuries and irritation to tissues.
