PSG vs. Real Madrid time, TV channel, stream, lineups, betting odds for Champions League match

It’s the clash of the titans in the Champions League, as 13-time winners Real Madrid face a star-studded Paris Saint-Germain in the Round of 16.

The Parisian side only managed to win three of its six group games, leaving them in second position behind Manchester City, while Real Madrid topped their group, five points clear of Italian champions Inter Milan.

Both sides are leading their domestic leagues, but come into the game off the back of underwhelming results on the weekend. PSG needed a late winner from Kylian Mbappe to see off Rennes, while Real Madrid could only manage a draw away to Villarreal. While Real Madrid have the greater European pedigree, they come into the game with just one win in their last four matches.

Much of the focus will be on PSG’s attack. Lionel Messi has faced Los Blancos 45 times before, but this will be the first time he plays them since leaving Barcelona. Meanwhile, it seems reportedly inevitable that Mbappe will be joining his team’s opponents in the summer, meaning all eyes will be on him. That being said, Vinicius Junior is in great form for the Spanish giants, and is sure to be a thorn in the side of the home team.

PSG vs. Real Madrid projected lineups

PSG have a few injury doubts heading into the clash. Ander Herrera is sure to miss out, while the ongoing injury struggles for former Real Madrid icon Sergio Ramos mean he’s also ruled out. Neymar has been injured since November, but is said to be targeting a return to the squad for this game.

Former Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas is available to play against his former team, but it’s likely that Gianluigi Donnarumma will get the nod ahead of him, while another ex-Real player, Achraf Hakimi will get the chance to show his former employers they were wrong to let him go.

PSG projected starting lineup (4-3-3): Donnarumma (GK) — Hakimi, Marquinhos, Kimpembe, Mendes — Wijnaldum, Paredes, Verratti — Mbappe, Messi, Neymar.

The Spanish side heads into the game with fewer injury concerns. There are questions marks around Karim Benzema and Ferland Mendy, both of whom returned to training on Sunday and are seen as likely to start. Carlo Ancelotti’s trusted midfield three pick themselves for a big European night, but he has a decision to make in his front line.

Early reports indicate there’s a chance Gareth Bale could find his way into the lineup if Benzema is not in condition to start, similar to what occurred in the 0-0 draw at Villarreal on the weekend. If Benzema leads the line, he is likely to be flanked by Vinicius Junior on the left, and either Marco Asensio or Rodrygo on the right.

Real Madrid projected starting lineup (4-3-3): Courtois (GK) — Carvajal, Militao, Alaba, Mendy — Kroos, Casemiro, Modric — Asensio, Benzema, Vinicius Junior.

PSG could have the edge here.

While it’s impossible to count Real Madrid out in the Champions League, this isn’t the Real Madrid of old. With Karim Benzema only just returning to training, they may struggle to fire on all cylinders. That being said, their midfield trio has invaluable experience at this level, and knows how to manage a game as well as any other team out there.

PSG have turned the Parc des Princes into a fortress, winning with regularity and having not conceded at home since the beginning of December. While the number of injury uncertainties makes a prediction harder, the potential return of Neymar only adds to their potency, even if he’s only available for a cameo.

If the Brazilian is able to start, and find his rhythm, the home side could have too much for their visitors. However, with the way Vinicius Junior has been performing this season, Madrid have a strong chance of at least picking up an away goal.
