Renfe lowers the price of the new Alvia in Extremadura and sells tickets from 16.75 euros

Offer 30,000 discount tickets until December 10

Renfe celebrates the entry into operation of new railway services in Extremadura with promotional offers. In the case of Extremadura, it is going to launch a ticket campaign with promotional prices. If yesterday he announced that the cheapest would cost 18 euros, this Friday he reports that “the offer improves a little more” and those from 16.75 euros per trip.

The entity announces that from today until July 8, 20,000 tickets in standard class and 10,000 tickets in comfort will go on sale, at the price of 16.75 and 22 euros each way, respectively. This promotion will be valid for travel on the long-distance trains that will open the new line between Plasencia and Badajoz between July 19, the date of entry into service, and December 10.

According to Renfe forecasts, the new section will reduce travel times between Madrid and Badajoz by up to 51 minutes in this first phase.

At present, trips departing from the capital of Badajoz offer as the best schedule a medium-distance train that runs every day except Saturdays and that makes the journey in 5 hours and two minutes. In that case, the time saving will be 44 minutes. Regarding the Talgo or Intercity, which takes 5 hours and 9 minutes, the reduction will reach 51 minutes. It will be the same for the return leg, since in that case there is no medium-distance service. Compared to the worst connections the improvement is even greater.

This reduction will be achieved with the Alvia S-730 train that has been prepared for the Extremaduran line, to which will be added another daily with an Intercity or Talgo like the one that currently circulates.

Actually, it will be the same Intercity service but on the new line. In that case, the reduction would be 41 minutes on the outward journey and 34 on the return.

The new fast train from Extremadura will not stop in Plasencia

At the same time, the entity will continue with its daily medium-distance, regional and regional express offer (public service trains), “which will maintain the current prices for both single and round-trip tickets, such as the 10 voucher and the monthly,” he adds.

In this way, the entity highlights that the number of weekly circulations will increase by 17%, going from the current 145 (131 public service and 14 commercial services) to 170 as of July 19 (144 public service and 26 commercial services, almost twice as many as now).

The announcement about the new services implies that Renfe unblocks the sale of tickets, which until yesterday was closed from June 27.

renovated trains

The Alvia S-730 train that will enter service on the Extremadura high-performance line on July 19 has been remodeled by Renfe at the Talgo workshops in Las Matas (Madrid) to improve interior design and comfort.

The 730 series Alvias are hybrid trains, with both diesel and electric traction technology, so they will be suitable when the new line is electrified, which is expected for the first half of next year. This model also has a movable rolling system, a feature that allows it to circulate both on standard or international gauge tracks (such as the AVE) and on conventional gauge tracks, which are the ones that have been installed on the platform in Extremadura.
