Replaced the bull of the Sanjuanes de Coria at dawn on the 24th after suffering a goring

Bull that will finally be fought in the early hours of June 24.

The incident occurred on the Marqué de Albaserrada ranch itself. He will be replaced by a bull from Isaías and Tulio Vázquez

The standard-bearer of the Sanjuanes de Coria 2022, Mayte Rodríguez Pacheco, announced this morning that the bull that was scheduled to be fought at dawn on June 24, coming from the Marqués de Albaserrada ranch, has suffered a goring on the farm, reason why finally it will not be able to be seen in the streets of the town of Cáceres. The substitute will be a bull from the Isaías and Tulio Vázquez ranch.

The new bull receives the name of Elaborate. The ranch to which it belongs has never been present in Coria before, so it will be the first time that residents and visitors see a bull belonging to this rancher in the streets of the city.

The standard-bearer and the City Council have everything ready to start the most awaited week by the people from Cauria.

Changes in celebrations

The mayor, Jose Manuel García Ballestero, communicated some of the changes that the celebrations undergo this year for security reasons. They will affect above all the fair, the slider and the carrycot.

The first mayor made it known in his speech how complicated it is to organize and celebrate festivals like the sanjuanes. To this are added the two years without parties in which there have been some modifications. Therefore, Coria and the City Council are forced to adapt to these changes as has been done on other occasions. “They are our traditions and our roots, but we have to adapt them little by little to the needs and also to the overcrowding that is increasing every year in festivals that are special and unique in Spain but that also have a certain risk”, has sentenced Ballesteros.

The insurance that is paid every year for San Juan has also undergone changes, the price has increased from 13,000 euros to 120,000, due to the high accident rate during the holidays and the high number of claims that occur this week. It should be noted that the City Council assumes all health competencies while the bull is in the streets.

Regarding the burning of the carrycot, the Mayor has announced that a security perimeter will be created to avoid accidents, since in previous years there have been many claims that have been filed for individual responsibility. The Local Police and Firefighters will be present in said perimeter to prevent the prohibition of access to it from being broken. From the City Council they want to appeal to the collaboration of citizens and the supporters clubs so that incidents do not occur. It has also been mentioned that during this traditional event there will be surveillance cameras.

For its part, the fair will be installed on Brasil Street, near the bus station. In this case, the responsibility for this change lies with the Hydrographic Confederation of the Tagus, which has prohibited its installation on the promenade of the Island, as has been done in recent years.

The last of the modifications will be suffered by the stalls that were usually located on Calle Corredera. These will be moved to the same place as the fair in order to leave the street free as an evacuation route if necessary. This decision has been made at the request of the technicians and the safety commission.

“This year we have especially emphasized safety, putting a lot of work and effort into forecasting the influx of the public,” said the mayor.
