Rushia Brown, a former WNBA superstar and founder of Women’s Professional Basketball Alumni (WPBA), is used to being surrounded by networks of influential women who cheer on each other. What he did not anticipate, however, was the lack of support or resources the league provided to former WNBA players upon retiring. After a 10-year career playing abroad in Europe and seven years in the American league with the Cleveland Rockers and Charlotte Sting, Brown founded the WPBA in 2011, the first and only organization structured to help women who have played professionally. in the WNBA or in Europe on their transition back to mainstream society.
