Salaya affirms that the Cáceres market will move “as soon as possible”

The Cáceres government team does not know when the free market will move from its current location in the Vegas del Mocho urbanization, where it has been provisionally for ten years, to its final location. The mayor, Luis Salaya, has stated that he will move “as soon as we can”, thus responding to a question asked by the Popular Party councilor José Ángel Sánchez Juliá in the ordinary May plenary session held this Thursday.

The alderman has not offered deadlines despite the fact that the Association of Street Merchants of Extremadura (Acaex) has threatened to stop next week if the City Council does not officially pronounce on the new location. The businessmen will meet next Monday with the mayor to address an issue that also affects the owners of the land, a private group of promoters.

Salaya has recognized that the transfer of the market is “a necessity” but at the same time has clarified that the definitive location “continues to be conditioned to the development and urban modifications” of the future plot.

Palace of Fairs and Congresses

In the plenary session, the only group motion on the agenda was unanimously approved, presented by the Popular Party and related to the construction of a Palace of Fairs and Congresses in Cáceres. All the groups have supported the initiative defended by the popular spokesman, Rafael Mateos, who has demanded a political commitment from the Junta de Extremadura and the Diputación de Cáceres to finance the project, to which a budget item in 2021 of 500,000 euros has already been allocated. to condition the land, which has not been executed.

«We must ask, if it is necessary out loud, to invest in the city of Cáceres and not leave us aside; It cannot be that the three fair and congress palaces that exist in our region are in the province of Badajoz”, explained Mateos.

From the Government team, the Councilor for Commerce, Ángeles Costa, has admitted that it is necessary for other administrations to get involved in the construction of an infrastructure that must be programmed “adequately”, as she has said.

He has also indicated that the Urbanism team is working on the projects of the ideas competition that was convened in 2010, to define what can be built. “It must be a versatile and multifunctional building that hosts any type of event, and even a concert,” Costa has advanced, who has also linked the market to the parking area of ​​the Palacio de Ferias y Congresos.

On the other hand, the popular spokesman has asked why the domiciled receipts of the circulation tax have been charged this month of May, scheduled for April, on a date close to the collection of the IBI. Costa has clarified that there has been a change in the computer program of the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) that has generated difficulties and has been resolved with the Autonomous Collection Agency (OAR).

The popular have also been interested in the change of position of the government team regarding the hunt for wild boars with archery that took place last week in the Parque del Príncipe, when last year the motion that this group was not approved proposed to control the population by that method.

On this, Salaya has said that it is a broad program that has to be faced from multiple perspectives, “that is why in its day we opposed the measure of the Popular Party, but we are not going to solve all the problems of the wild boar population with archers , but some yes”.
