Second journalist murdered in Mexico in the last week: They demand to clarify the case of Alfredo Cardoso

Organizations of Journalists of the Mexican state of Guerrero They demanded this Sunday the clarification of the case of the murder of journalist Alfredo Cardoso, who would have been kidnapped last Friday, October 29 and found dead this Sunday.

“There are two reasons for this protest, the first is the aggression suffered by Alfredo Cardoso, a photojournalist, and in this context and it seems that at the same time, the municipal president expressed a series of unfortunate expressions inciting the population to attack the reporters, ”Miguel Ángel Mata, president of the Guerrero State Journalists Club, told the EFE news agency.

According to various local media, the photojournalist was deprived of his liberty at his home by a group of armed men on Friday night; The subjects took him to an unknown destination for hours after leaving him a few meters from his house with signs of torture and five bullet wounds.

Cardoso’s murder makes him the second journalist killed in the last week alone; the most recent case was that of Freddy López Arévalo, a journalist murdered last Thursday with a firearm shot caused by an antisocial, when he arrived at his home in the company of his family in the Las Rosas neighborhood of the city of Tuxtla Gutiérrez (Chiapas).

The international human rights organization for the defense of freedom of expression and the right to information in Mexico detailed that 143 journalists have been murdered for carrying out their work in the last six months of the year. The figure rises to 144 with the unfortunate murder of Cardoso.

For their part, journalists have rejected the position of the mayor of Acapulco, Abelina López, who asserted that the media are responsible for raising the “alarm of violence,” instead of remaining silent, he insinuated.

Cardoso’s journalists and colleagues reported that They will go to the State and National Human Rights Commission to file a complaint against López “because his sayings may constitute a crime against” the freedom of the press.
