Is “Elmo’s World” and we just live in it, as long as we don’t touch its oatmeal cookies.
The furry red Muppet has earned the adoration of adult fans on social media after the sound bites and clips of the “Sesame Street” pillar have resurfaced.
A scene from “Sesame Street”, which originally aired in 2004, attracted social media attention (with over 100,000 retweets in a week) in early January and became a rallying cry for people to be left behind Elmo as she loses her cool after being denied a cookie because according to her friend Muppet, Zoe, her pet rock Rocco, is going to eat it.
Elmo’s response: “Rocco doesn’t even have a mouth, Rocco is just a rock. Rocco isn’t live. “
After gaining popularity, Elmo teased his feelings from 2004 and asked Twitter to rate, “Has anyone ever seen a rock eat a cookie? Elmo is just curious.” Elmo tweeted Wednesday.
USA TODAY has contacted Sesame Workshop to comment on the ongoing friendly dispute.
Social media users rated Elmo’s response as both “unhinged” Y “identifiable” and even celebrities like Jada Pinkett Smith and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson are adding to the drama between Elmo and the inanimate object.
“Yeah buddy. This Rock eats cookies. All kinds of cookies. I’ll introduce you to #CheatMeals and it will change your life.” Johnson tweeted.
Pinkett Smith invited the muppets to try and figure it out on her Facebook Watch show: “@Elmo and zoe call me. I have seats for both of us at @RedTableTalk anytime they’re ready. There are 3 sides to every story.” she wrote.
Here are the viral memes that make the goldfish and crayon-loving figure a current phenomenon.

Elmo vs. Rocco
The conflict that started Elmo’s fame in 2022 has continued, but social media is just finding out.
In 1999, Elmo met Rocco for the first time and laughed at the object’s existence saying, “Zoe can’t have a friend who is a rock” between laughter.
Social media users have unearthed a series of clips of Elmo downplaying Rocco and calling it “the greatest rivalry of all time.”
But the rivalry has a clear crowd favorite.
“Elmo has been continually illuminated by Rocco the rock and I feel like we should listen to it”, @bribrisimps wrote.

But above all, the dispute is bringing joy and laughter to users of social networks.
“Guys! I wake up at 3am Howling! Everyone PLEASE check out the hashtag #ElmoVsRocco !!! Please !!! @elmo got over it !!!” wrote comedian and actress Yvette Nicole Brown.
“being on elmo tiktok has done more for my dopamine levels than therapy”, @ beccahay97 wrote.
Another user wrote: “Elmo was never that fun when he was little.”

At the end of the week, Elmo publicly thanked everyone for the increased attention, but made it clear that the rivalry persists.
“Great week for Elmo. Elmo wants to thank all of Elmo’s friends, new and old! @SesameErnie said Elmo and Rocco should shake hands, but you can’t fool Elmo twice,” the puppet tweeted with a clip of Rocco cheating on him.
Elmo vs. Jimmy Fallon
Rocco isn’t the only thing that has left Elmo upset.
Elmo joined Jimmy Fallon in 2011 on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and joins the comedian for the opening monologue, but Fallon “embarrasses” him after missing a signal. When Elmo expresses his frustration, Fallon responds by saying that the Muppets “should have come to rehearsal”, leading Elmo sarcastically to leave the stage and ban Fallon from “Sesame Street.”
“No, because why did Jimmy Fallon embarrass Elmo like that?” @shxrnn_ wrote.
Another user wrote: “That Elmo keeps his foot on Fallon’s neck brings me great joy.”
Years later, Fallon became Elmo’s first guest at the “The show not too late with Elmo”, on HBO Max: a parody of Fallon’s television location.

Fallon gave Elmo advice as a show host and danced to the viral Floss dance, which Elmo found “interesting.”
“Interesting is the worst word you want to hear,” Fallon said. “When I’m dancing you shouldn’t say it’s interesting, you should say it’s good or bad.”
Elmo said it was fine after a break.
Elmo’s ‘balsamic vinegar’ and other accent notes
On TikTok, Elmo has drawn attention for his funny voice, which users think often slides into a New York City accent, and the assumption is not ruled out considering “Sesame Street” movies in the borough of Queens of the city.
During a 2015 episode of “The Tonight Show,” Elmo led Questlove, Fallon, and actor Jason Schwartzman through a cooking tutorial to make their version of Sloppy Joe’s: Sloppy Oscars.
As he guides the celebrities, he names ingredients, “Onions, garlic, celery, balsamic vinegar, that’s an important word for Elmo.”
TikTok found the clip and noticed how his accent slipped when naming the last ingredient, making “balsamic vinegar” the new buzzword on social media.
“He controls the five boroughs”, @willyjsaint aware.
Social media users were also pleased with a clip of Elmo’s changing dialect as he sings about random objects.
“Elmo saying ‘Roll of paper towel’ is just as funny” @ eagleeyez92 wrote.
“Sesame Street” is now in its 52nd season and can be streamed on HBO Max. The new season, which premiered in November, will invite celebrities such as pop star Billie Eilish, poet Amanda Gorman, rapper Anderson .Paak, tennis player Naomi Osaka, among others.
Elmo will also receive more attention on children’s shows with the debut of a new animated segment, “Mysterious Mysteries of Elmo and Tango,” consisting of five-minute episodes that follow the intrepid adventures of Elmo and his adopted puppy, Tango.
