Six players of the absolute repeat in the Games in which Ramos will not be

The Spanish U21 coach Luis de la Fuente announced this Tuesday the players chosen to defend the team’s jersey at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Six of the men chosen by the coach are already defending Spain at the European Championship: Unai Simón, Eric García, Pedri, Dani Olmo, Oyarzabal or Pau Torres. All of them fall within the sub 23 limit set by FIFA to play the Olympic Games, an act in which they will not be Sergio Ramos. The defender, already at the end of his career, longed to live an Olympic experience, but has not been called up by De la Fuente. Yes, there are three Madridistas on the list: Asensio, Ceballos and Vallejo. The three places for older than that age allowed by the organization correspond to Dani Ceballos, Mikel Merino and Marco Asensio, all with experience in the senior team.

The complete list of players summoned by De la Fuente is made up of:

Álvaro Fernández, Unai Simón and Álex Domínguez, as goalkeepers.

The defenders Óscar Mingueza, Jesús Vallejo, Èric García, Pau Torres, Óscar Gil and Juan Miranda.

The midfielders Cucurella, Moncayola, Zubimendi, Ceballos, Mikel Merino, Carlos Soler and Pedri.

Bryan Gil, Marco Asensio, Dani Olmo, Mikel Oyarzabal, Rafa Mir and Javi Puado as forwards.

At the moment, De la Fuente still does not know if he will be able to register the 22 players on the Olympic list or just 18, plus four substitutes. “There is a consultation of several federations, including the Spanish one, so that 22 players are allowed to register. We are awaiting a response to that request. Let’s see if they are ’18 +4 ‘or 22 registered. We want everyone to feel important and we trust that this request will be favorable and that the 22 can be there, ”explained the coach to the press.

Regarding Ramos’s absence, he explained: «I didn’t call Ramos, I didn’t understand that I had to do anything apart with anyone. He had the same possibilities as the rest, he sure understands the decision.

The Olympic team will concentrate tomorrow in Madrid and the next day they will train in the Ciudad del Fútbol de las Rozas, before moving to the Alicante town of Benidorm, where the preparation phase prior to the Olympic Games will take place.

Before the tournament, they will play in Kobe a friendly against Japan on July 17, the only one before the premiere on the 22nd in Sapporo against Egypt. Three days later, on Sunday 25, they play in the same city against Australia and will close the group on July 28.
