Spanish paddle surfing already has its new SUP Talent 2021

Last weekend the final of the SUP Talent Spain Series 2021 took place in which the young promises of Stand Up Paddle demonstrated the good form that this sport has in Spain.

The Alicante town of Xàbia hosted this second final of the SUP Talent Spain Series with the collaboration of the Jávea Surf Club and the Jávea Yacht Club, which provided all the technical means necessary for this sports final to be held in an impeccable manner. .

After the forced break in 2020, the SUP Talent Spain Series started up again, touring the entire Spanish geography in search of athletes, aged between 10 and 15, with the greatest potential in this discipline, who can become an Olympian in 2028, with the aim of bringing them together in the final that has determined the six most talented athletes in paddle surfing in Spain.

During the first day, the official training sessions were held, led by Telmo Irigoyen, technical director of the Jávea Surf Club, and Carlos López, president of the Catalan Surf Federation, both technicians from the Spanish Surf Federation.

The bay of Jávea offered its characteristic setting, with the cliffs of Cape San Antonio in the background and almost perfect conditions, with light winds from the northwest and a flat sea, allowing the technicians to begin to evaluate the attitudes and skills of the finalists summoned .

During the second day, time for the final of the SUP Talent 2021, the weather got rough, causing both athletes and technicians to intensify their efforts to guarantee their safety at sea. Finally, the organization chose to make a very fast “downwind” – route in favor of the wind – of almost 5 kilometers, between the Club Náutico de Jávea and Cala Blanca, to return to the Arenal beach of Xàbia in a demanding journey against the wind of almost 2.5 kilometers, allowing the technicians of the Spanish Surfing Federation to check the bravery of these athletes when facing conditions reserved only for experts.

At the end of the day and while the technicians finished discussing the latest characteristics of the finalists, they were presented with gifts and different products from Leclercq Surfing (surfing and paddle surfing school), Raw Elements (sun creams specialized in water sports), WetSuitCare (soap for wetsuits), Vivida (surf fashion) and Awesome Maps (maps of sports spots). Next, Carlos López and Telmo Irigoyen announced which young promises of Spanish paddle surfing were going to hold the title of SUP Talent 2021.
