Spectacular start of the V KiteFest Cesantes Xacobeo Trophy

Updated at 8:15 p.m.

Spectacular opening day of the fifth edition of the KiteFest Cesantes Trofeo Xacobeo, a test organized by the TMKiteClub and the Redondela Council. The San Simón cove did not disappoint and received the more than one hundred participants with sun and very good wind to complete the first tests of the competition program. During the afternoon, after finishing the regattas, the public was able to enjoy a freestyle show in front of the beach and at the hands of some of the best riders in the world.

The day officially started at 10:00 am with the delivery of numbers to the riders. At around 1:30 p.m., the Foil fleet was in charge of giving the starting signal on the water, with a wind of between 12 and 15 knots that allowed it to complete the two tests scheduled for today. Justo Fernández, current Galician champion of the class, was the winner in both races and is placed as provisional leader of his category.

The turn of the Twintip and Surf classes -the most numerous- arrived at the edge of 3:00 p.m. With 18-20 knots of wind, the Regatta Committee completed a valid test in which Iago Xavier Mariño in Men’s Twintip, Ana Fernández in Women’s Twintip, Lucas Muller in Men’s Surf and Patricia Suárez in Women’s Surf prevailed. In the Amateur division (not federated), David Tojeiro leads in Twintip and Gustavo Visier in Surf.

Also competing in Twintip were the 2021 world champion, Arthur Guillebert (Eleveight) and Xavier Kain (Core), the former being the provisional leader of the Professional division.

The last to enter the scene were the Wingfoils, who completed up to four heats in which Justo Fernández won again with three partial victories.

Once the competition was over, the public was able to enjoy a unique show in front of the beach at the hands of professional riders. Jumps, tricks and maneuvers never seen before in the cove with the current runner-up in the world, Liam Whaley (Duotone); last season’s world champion, Arthur Guillebert (Eleveight); Xavier Kain (Core), Jerome Cloetens (Duotone) and Nicolás March (Ozone).

Tomorrow Sunday, final day

The V Kitefest Cesantes Trofeo Xacobeo returns tomorrow with more competition, more shows and more activities. If the part is fulfilled, the Regatta Committee will try to start the tests from 12:30 p.m. to then give way to one of the most anticipated moments of the weekend: the Freestyle and Big Air exhibition. The professional riders who participate this year in the great event of the kite season in Galicia will also repeat with a new Expression Session.

In the most playful part, the possibility of practicing paddle surfing and kayaking will continue, while the little ones will also be able to participate in a recycling workshop and a gymkhana organized by the Salitre Sports Club.

The V KiteFest Cesantes Xacobeo Trophy is organized by the TMKiteClub and the Redondela City Council, with the sponsorship of Xacobeo 2021-22, ABANCA, April Oils, Mercedes-Benz Louzao and the collaboration of the Xunta de Galicia, the Pontevedra Provincial Council and the Royal Galician Sailing Federation.
