Sports courts, parks and road safety, among the requests from the neighborhoods of Cáceres

Sports endowments, parks, improvement of road safety with new pedestrian crossings or reinforcement of existing ones, more lighting and repair of sidewalks are some of the proposals presented to the participatory budgets of 2022. In total, 222 initiatives have been registered that start from neighborhood associations and other groups.

This Wednesday, a first assessment of this list of improvements for the neighborhoods was made in a district council held at the Raimundo Medina civic center. On Monday, the 7th, after the analysis carried out by the municipal technicians, the ones to be executed will be selected, charged to the amount allocated by the local accounts for this year for the participatory budget, a figure that has been one million euros.

Road safety is one of the aspects that most concerns residents. The Santa Lucía association, in the South district, asks for an illuminated pedestrian crossing on Juan Pablo II avenue, at the height of the detour to Aldea Moret, to directly connect this neighborhood with Nuevo Cáceres.

At the other end of the city, in Gredos, belonging to the North district, they demand an overpass or that security be reinforced in the pedestrian crossing that is at a “dangerous” point on Valeriano Gutiérrez Macías street, where they have occurred. accidents, according to its neighborhood leader, Juan Merino, who also calls for the repair of the sidewalks, the expansion of the playground and better lighting for the neighborhood.

This urbanization also proposes an additional exit from the neighborhood from Castelar street towards Valeriano Gutiérrez Macías to facilitate the entry and exit by car to the residence, which can only be accessed from Juan José Narbón. Precisely on this street is the Gredos bus stop, for which they ask for signs with the timetables of the lines, “as in the rest of the stops in the city,” says Merino.

Among the proposals for the North district, there is also a car park that provides service to users of the Mejostilla-Gredos culture house, on Río Jaranda street, and a large park for all residents of this area of the capital of Cáceres. The project is an old claim to unite four neighborhoods, Mejostilla, Cáceres El Viejo, Ronda and Gredos. His idea is a space similar to the Cuartillo facilities. It would go to a piece of land located between Los Trigales and Juan José Narbón streets, where elm trees have already been planted next to the Campofrío stream.

Returning to the South district, Las 300 want accessibility improvements to be made on one of its streets; Vistahermosa demands sports courts with restrooms; Llopis Ivorra, the execution of the second phase of the reform of Roche Sur Yon; the Primero de Mayo association, in Aldea Moret, that an action be carried out to recover some old sports courts in a state of abandonment that could become a park; and Sierra de San Pedro, to equip the current urbanization park with furniture, lighting and shade.

The Central district, meanwhile, has collected 19 proposals from the associations that comprise it. Four of them do not require financial support. One of these is from the bicycle users of the Webike collective, who request permission for people who “are not prepared to use zone 30” of the road to circulate along the Paseo de Cánovas.

In works, a comprehensive action is requested in Camino Llano, “not only the asphalt is worth,” they indicate. San Francisco requests to fix the exit to San Blas from Fuente Concejo. The paving of the sidewalk of the odd numbers of Doctor Sorapán is also included, as well as providing accessibility to the Rincón de la Monja, in the Old Part.

Public toilets

Public restrooms are in demand again. Cáceres Verde wants them in all the parks and that they reopen the Rodeo kiosk. Meanwhile, the Zona Centro neighborhood association proposes toilets and a drinking water fountain in the Plaza de Obispo Galarza.

Meanwhile, in the western district of the capital of Cáceres, the residents of El Junquillo request that the lighting of their park be improved to guarantee safety, since they consider that the intensity of the current lights is insufficient. In Los Castellanos they have asked that the municipal plot located behind the neighborhood headquarters be closed to avoid holding large bottles, which are common in this area. In this same area is the pedestrian walkway to cross the R-66, which requires a coat of paint and maintenance due to the deterioration that, according to the neighbors, it presents.

They have also agreed to request the implementation of an auxiliary register in the Western district to facilitate municipal procedures for older people in the neighborhoods that make it up, including Castellanos, El Vivero, El Arco or La Madrila. Meanwhile, in the latter they have proposed that the embankment of Plaza de Albatros and Calle Santa Teresa de Jesús be paved. In sports endowments they include a bio-healthy park in the neighborhood of Peru.

On the other hand, the Friends of the Ribera del Marco are betting on an environmental awareness campaign so that wipes and other cellulose-containing items are not thrown down the toilet, in order to prevent the sanitation network from being obstructed and ending up in the water. of the Ribera.

The person in charge of the district of the three districts of the city, Rincón de Ballesteros, the Arroyo-Malpartida Station and Valdesalor, who also make their contributions, has refused to facilitate the proposals of their neighbors to this newspaper. Last year, 150 projects were submitted to the participatory budgets and 21 were approved.
