Alicante City Council presents the edition of ‘Spring Trails’ 2021, a program of the Department of the Environment that directs Manuel Villar, with a total of six guided environmental itineraries of the Network of Urban Trails of the Alicante City Council and that will be held on alternate weekends, including between March 28 and June 5, 2021.
For this edition, the program offers itineraries by urban forest parks, itineraries through city walks and parks, as well as routes or marches that link neighborhoods such as that of San Gabriel with the path through the Sierra de los Colmenares, according to municipal sources.
So that, Sunday, March 28, the activity begins with an itinerary through the mount Orgegia, with a circular route of 3 kilometers through this urban forest park, witness to the transformation of the Huerta de Alicante. On Sunday April 11 An environmental itinerary is scheduled for another urban forest park, the monte Benacantil, in which an interpretive visit will be made to get to know, in a different way, this emblematic space that dominates the city and the bay. The second part of this itinerary will be developed by the park of La Ereta, crossing the medieval wall.
For the Sunday April 25th, the floodable park has been chosen La Marjal where there will be a guided tour in which, in addition to appreciating the flora and fauna, the ‘unique’ solution will be explained so that this park occasionally fulfills the function of a water retention tank, based on the operation of the marshes; hence its name.
At the halfway point of the programming, the itineraries will take place on Saturday afternoons, continuing the May 8 with one of the classics and most demanded by the public, the itinerary through the Unique walks and trees in the Traditional Center of Alicante, where part of the history of this area will be revealed through our most representative arboreal heritage.
Another of the trails in demand is that of the Sierra de San Julián, the Serra Grossa, to be held on Saturday afternoon May 22nd, combining the environment with the historical wealth that this enclave houses, accessing the Cerro del Molinet or Santa Ana.
The program concludes with a 9-kilometer walk, between roundtrip, that will depart from the Alicante neighborhood of San Gabriel, passing through the place of ‘El Porquet’ to reach the Sierra de los Colmenares trail, a mountain range partially crossed by the one that was declared ‘Cañada Real del Portichol’ (1955) and which reached the water trough of Bitter Waters.
The activity is free and open to the general public, requiring prior registration and with a maximum of 30 places per itinerary (2 groups of 15 people or groups of 6-10 people), establishing the relevant covid-19 preventive measures, in order to be able to offer adequate attention to the participating public, since each itinerary will be guided by two environmental educators with the support of staff from the Department of the Environment.

Those interested in pre-registering can do so by calling 965 96 00 34 (Monday to Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) or by e-mail: [email protected] by registering within the period established for each of the programmed trails.
