Home state week is rarely dramatic. Years gone by generated at least one starter a day and enough tit-for-tat for a lifetime, let alone 3×80 minutes of rugby league. In 2020, of course, the NRL backed out of its plan to forgo the national anthem (hello ScoMo!).
Similarly, the preparation for game one of this series did not disappoint. Of course, it has not been fulfilled in a Robbie-Kearns-falls-off-a-horse level, but even so … we have witnessed acts of espionage to hide a SWAP between Blues wingers Josh Addo-Carr and Brian To’o, Queensland’s “smokescreen” around Dane Gagai’s alleged tonsillitis, and Phil Gould’s deep anxiety about the potential of the offensive to soften the “gladiators” of Origin.
Oh ICYMI, there was also a change of venue after the Covid outbreak in Victoria forced the first game to move to Townsville. Interested in hearing your thoughts. It is, in my humble opinion, an excellent decision and a true regional victory that could still set a precedent for the future. Should we share the love of Origin a little more?
Anyway, here we go. Whether you are leaning against a bar stool, in a tent, or checking your score while watching reruns of Friends, we will endeavor to keep you up to date on all the happenings at Queensland Country Bank Stadium.
