Vehicle registrations in Spain deepen the downward trend, according to Spanish Association of Automobile and Truck Manufacturers (Anfac)Spanish Association of Automobile and Truck Manufacturers (Anfac). In fact, August becomes the first month, after the start of the coronavirus pandemic, which records fewer sales compared to the same period in 2020.
According to the latest report published by Anfac, passenger car and off-road registrations drop sharply, with a decrease in sales of 29% (47,584 units) compared to August 2020 (66,923 units). It is true that August is not usually a month of large sales volumes, but the figures registered this year are not found in the registration history since 2011. Only the months of August 2010 and 2013 showed fewer sales than this August 2021.
Regarding the accumulated of the year, a 12% increase (588,314 units) in registrations compared to the same period in 2020. However, if we compare the figures for 2021 with the first eight months of 2019, the last year with a normalized market without a crisis, we see that the accumulated sales of passenger cars and SUVs caen a 33%.
In the words of Noemi navas, communication director of Anfac: “Although August is not a month in which large volumes of vehicle sales are made, the drop registered is very important and refers us to data only seen in the previous economic crisis. This reduction responds in part to the fall in production due to the shortage of microchips, which is shutting down car factories around the world, but also to the situation derived from the pandemic, which has not yet ended. In addition, the sector once again perceives uncertainty in consumers regarding which car to buy, now due to the possibility of greater restrictions on technologies, initiatives that, although they are not safe, contribute to damaging the market at a time as delicate as the current one. ”
