The Alicante Book Fair 2020, organized by the Department of Culture and the Provincial Council of Alicante, has reached more than half a million impacts on social networks in a year marked by virtuality due to the current health circumstances of the pandemic.
“This year we have faced the challenge of converting an activity that has been meeting for 50 years in various places in our city into an event that has brought us together virtually and, despite the difficulties, we are very happy with the results”, assured the Councilor for Culture, Antonio Manresa, who has reported that during the 10 days that the fair lasted, from October 28 to November 1, there have been 90 activities, 40 of them dedicated to children; 43 classrooms from different educational centers in the city have participated in FLA-Educa, an innovative educational project also held online; Y 70 authors they have dialogued with their readers.
“The Alicante Book Fair has been maintained thanks to the innovation and work of great professionals while in other places, such as Madrid, they were canceled”, highlighted Manresa, who also points out the fact that this new format has allowed to go beyond the geographical limits of the city and the province, turning the fair into an international event.
For her part, the deputy for Culture, Julia Parra, has assured that “the objectives set for this year have been achieved, among which are to support all people whose professional activity and income depend on books, encourage the reading, promoting creativity and establishing channels of dialogue between different cultural agents to create synergies with the help of digital resources that have been successfully developed for this occasion ”.
Among the participation data of this meeting between the literature and its public, it is necessary to highlight the half a million impacts reached on Facebook and the 31,000 people who have interacted in the publications of this social network. In addition, they have joined 1,452 new followers in this fair and the video reproductions amount to more than 60,000.
Regarding the fair’s website, it has registered more than 17,000 visits that have been derived from 8,700 different users, a result that multiplies by four the impact on the website of previous years.
After analyzing the results of the fair, it has been observed that the activities that have obtained the greatest impact have been the holding of the workshops, the conferences of the writers of national relevance (such as those given David Trueba, Bluejeans Y Elvira Lindo), the presentations of books for adults, children’s books and, finally, children’s animations.
