The Bengals, now champions of the American Conference, They left the Titans and the Chiefs on the road, number one and two in the AFC, respectively.

The most recent time Cincinnati played for the NFL championship was in Super Bowl XXIII on January 22, 1989..

Cincinnati pin, Joe Burrow, 25, the winner of the 2019 Heisman Trophy, which is awarded to the best college player, rallied from an 18-point deficit in a game that ended with 250 yards, two touchdown passes and an interception.

For the Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes, 26, failed to lead his team to its third Super Bowl in a row. He finished the game with 275 yards, three TDs and two interceptions.

Kansas City dominated the first half since the inaugural series in which he covered 84 yards in 12 plays and scored on his quarterback’s first TD pass of the game to Tyreek Hill.

Unlike the divisional matchup in which Cincinnati’s offensive line allowed nine sacks from its quarterback, Burrow now wasn’t caught in the first half, despite having a hard time making his offense work, earning three points on his first drive.

Back in the field Patrick Mahomes dragged the visiting defense again, this time for 75 yards until he found tight end Travis Kelce in the end zone that put them up 3-14.

Coach Andy Reid’s team was unstoppable with another long drive, 67 yards, that Mahomes concluded with a TD to Mecole Hardman to distance 3-21.

The Bengals got within 10-21 in their last drive of the first half on Joe Burrow’s pass to Samaje Perine.

In the third quarter the Cincinnati attack finally established a consistent series, but the defensive end Melvin Ingram sacked Burrow for the first time in the game, one play later he blocked a pass that forced the Bengals to settle for a field goal, 13-21.

It was the defense of coach Zac Taylor’s squad that fueled their offense thanks to an intercepted pass from lineman Bobby Hill, who Burrow, back on the field, took advantage with a touchdown pass to Ja’Marr Chase that tied the match 21-21.

The adjustments that Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo made halted the five drives the Chiefs had through the middle of the fourth quarter and that the offense capitalized on it with another field goal to turn the score around 24-21.

With six minutes to play, Mahomes returned to the field and mounted an attack in which he covered 49 yards, and left two seconds on the clock for his kicker to get the tie 24-24.

In the Chiefs’ first drive in overtime, Mahomes suffered an interception by Vonn Bell, an error that Burrow took advantage of to bring the ball closer to field goal distance.

Rookie Evan McPherson, 22, got the victory with a 42-yard kick that left the score 27-24.

Super Bowl LVI will be played on February 13 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California., between the Bengals and the winner of the duel between the 49ers and the Rams who play later.
