The Second Chance Schools will have an endowment of more than 2 million euros

The Junta de Extremadura launches a new employment program for young people, called Second Chance Schools, through which it hopes to recover people who dropped out of the education system to improve their training with internship and hiring possibilities.

The Governing Council has authorized the Extremeño Public Employment Service (Sexpe) to hire the organization and development service for this program with a tender budget of 2,114,860 euros.

The objective of the Second Chance Schools is to improve employability through orientation, support and training, favoring professional and social integration, thus increasing job opportunities for unemployed young people who dropped out of school.

The spokesman for the Board, Juan Antonio González, has indicated that since 2015 the percentage of young people who drop out of school has been reduced by ten points, going from 24 to 14%. Likewise, he has highlighted that in the last year 4,843 young people from the region have joined the labor market. Despite this, 17,000 are still unemployed, of which a high number have low qualifications. The objective of this program is to reorient them to improve their employability.

To this end, the General Directorate for Quality in Employment promotes a comprehensive and innovative program that provides these people with a second chance through flexible learning spaces, in addition to accompanying them so that they get training and increase their chances of insertion in the world. labor.

According to the regional government, the Second Chance Schools offer companies the opportunity to participate and get involved in all phases and processes to contribute to the continuous adaptation between the interests of youth and the needs of the labor market, configuring the realization of non-labour internships and hiring as an essential element in the training itinerary.

This action is part of the Employment and Business Competitiveness Strategy of Extremadura 2020-2025 and the Employment Plan of Extremadura 2020-2021, “which is committed to improving the quality of employment, establishing among its objectives accompanying people in their transition from the educational system to the labor market and vice versa.

Along with this, the Governing Council has authorized the call for aid to carry out Lifelong Learning programs for the 2022/2023 academic year with a budget of 765,000 euros.

Specifically, the aid corresponding to training in basic skills, access to levels of the educational system and the preparation of tests for the direct obtaining of qualifications aimed at adults are called.

Local corporations in the region, associations of municipalities and private non-profit entities that have adult education or training among their goals may apply for these grants. They will receive an aid of 2,550 euros per program, which will contribute to the partial financing of the expenses of contracted teaching staff.
