The Board will ask 26,000 people from Extremadura how many cars they have at home and if they use public transport


The Junta de Extremadura will carry out more than 26,000 surveys to learn about mobility habits in Extremadura within the consultation phase of the Extremeño Plan for Sustainable Mobility (PEMS).

The main objective of this plan is to establish strategic lines, programs and actions to be carried out between 2023-2030, in order to promote mobility in the region in a safe, efficient and sustainable manner.

In addition, it aims to improve the quality and sustainability of public passenger transport to connect with the policies and actions established by the European Union and with the Strategy for Safe, Sustainable and Connected Mobility 2030, promoted by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda .

The need to have this plan has been analyzed in the Mobility and Infrastructure Table, included in the Agenda for the Social and Economic Reactivation of Extremadura, which advocates promoting collaboration and citizen and business participation in matters of mobility and infrastructure, reflecting agreement with the economic and social agents of the region.

Currently, a technical and participatory mobility diagnosis is being developed, for which the opinion and information provided by different groups through eight sectoral tables, which are education, health, culture, tourism, agribusiness, territorial agents , social agents and parliamentary representation in Extremadura.

The surveys will be carried out anonymously and will be distributed throughout the region to reveal in detail the situation of the community in terms of mobility. 17,250 telephone surveys will be carried out to find out the number and type of vehicles in each home or information on the last trip made (reason for the trip, mode of transport, time…).

At the same time, 5,995 face-to-face surveys will be carried out in collective transport attractors to obtain information on the use of public transport (bus stations, train stations and Badajoz airport), as well as another 3,000 in 24 parking areas with the aim of characterizing the type of parking performed by the person interviewed.

The responses of the citizens of Extremadura will allow knowing with “great precision” the current situation and the citizen’s perception of mobility in Extremadura, demands and habits, so that the Extremeño Plan for Sustainable Mobility can be the tool to try to solve the problems detected efficiently, the regional Executive reported in a press release.

The Junta de Extremadura has encouraged all the randomly selected people to participate in the survey, although, if they do not receive this call, citizens can leave their opinion and suggestions about mobility in Extremadura in the participation mailbox of the Extremadura Mobility website.
