Surveillance devices seek to reduce vandalism at the facility, which fills up almost daily

The free public parking of the Trujillo bridge already has six security cameras connected to the headquarters of the Local Police, according to the Plasencia City Council. “Two cameras have been placed on each of the three floors of the car park, for greater security of its users,” explains David Dóniga, First Deputy Mayor and Councilor for the Interior, Development, Districts, Minor Local Entities, Communication and Innovation . The mayor adds that another improvement has already been completed: the placement of traffic signs that facilitate transit through this space that records very good occupancy data, with almost daily full.

It has also suffered practically since it came into service from several deficiencies that have weighed down the balance of its first year in operation – it opened on August 30 last year – and which the Consistory and the Cáceres Provincial Council tried to resolve, the latter administration putting on 20 % of the 1,547,278 euros that it took to build it. The remaining 80% was contributed by the European Union, through the EDUSI funds (Strategy for Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development).

The problems of leaks that appeared a few days after opening were followed by others, such as the accumulation of water with the first rains. And over time a new problem appeared: insecurity. An issue that has also partly marked the future of this car park –which is accessed via Calle Eulogio González– has been the misuse of it by some users, who leave their cars for days, using it as another private parking space. than as a public parking lot for a few hours for those who go to work, shop, visit or do business in the historic center.

“With the installation of the signs, the car park is fully equipped”

Enrique Cenalmor

Mayor of the Plasencia Local Police

The mayor of the Local Police explains that the installation of signs has also been completed, which also reinforce the safety of users. “Everything necessary has already been installed,” Enrique Cenalmor details: the signs that warn of the presence of the surveillance cameras, the signs for pedestrian crossings, the speed limit signs and the speed reducers, so that the car park it is perfectly equipped”.

The car park is accessed shortly after entering Eulogio González street, and exits along the slope next to the Trujillo bridge, so that drivers can turn right (down towards the San Juan neighborhood) or left (ascent to go either to Eulogio González street or to the roundabout that allows you to turn towards the historic viaduct or towards Calvo Sotelo avenue), as was the case with the existing unconditioned car park before the one that opened only recently was built some hours.
