The Catalans suspend the Government and ask for more management and less ‘procés’

The Catalans suspend the Government with an average score of 4.85 and the central Government with a 4.41, according to the evaluation survey of the Government and of the public policies of 2021 that has published this Thursday the Opinion Studies Center (CEO) of the Generalitat.

The survey was drawn up with a sample of 1,500 people between November 25 and December 15 – at the beginning of the sixth wave of the coronavirus pandemic and shortly before the approval of the Budgets both Catalan and state – and has a margin of error of 2.53.

The study shows that, although the average grade obtained by the Government is 4.85, 62.5% of those surveyed approve of the Executive’s management and 37% suspend it, 0.4% do not know it and 0.1% did not answer.

Stable score

If compared with the valuation obtained by the Government in other years, it remains stable, since in 2020 it was 4.78 and in 2019 it was 4.46, and the director of the CEO, Jordi Muñoz, has pointed out that the “slight upward trend” that is observed falls within the margin of error of the survey.

According to the electorate of each party, it stands out that compared to last year, the evaluations among the voters of ERC and Junts have been reversed, which now score the Executive with 5.85 and 5.28 respectively: in 2020 those of the party of Carles Puigdemont They valued the Government better than those of ERC, and now the opposite occurs, something that the director of the CEO has attributed to the change in the presidency of the Generalitat that the Republicans now have.

The increase in the assessment made by voters of the ‘comuns’ is also remarkable, which in one year has gone from 4.37 to 5.25, something that, according to Muñoz, may be due to the Budget agreement with the Government, while the valuation among the socialist electorate also rises -from an average score of 4.01 to 4.61-, and among the ‘cupaires’ it drops slightly -from 4.34 to 4 , 25–.

Valuation by sectors

The CEO asks if the respondents consider that the Government knows how to solve problems or not, and 52.1% believe not, 43.7% that yes but that it needs time, and 2.1% that it is already doing it, figures similar to those of last year although it increases by about 7 points those who believe that the Executive knows how to solve problems but needs time and drops 6 points; those who deny that they know how to do it.

Likewise, the CEO specifies the assessment of the Generalitat’s performance in different areas: the best valued sector is that of the promotion of gender equality and the fight against discrimination with 6.32, followed by culture with 6.08 and public education with 6, while housing management is the worst valued with 4.26, and together with the fight against unemployment (4, 39) and the administration of justice (4.71) are the only areas in which it fails.

Government priorities

In another question, the CEO raises whether the Government’s priority should be the management of public services o la resolution of the Catalan conflict, and 59.5% opt for the first option and 37.5% for the second.

These results consolidate the Change of trend which began last year in the wake of the pandemic, as in 2019 there were more respondents who believed that the priority should be the resolution of the conflict.

It stands out that if the results of this question are rehearsed according to the electorate of each party, only the voters of Junts choose that the priority is to resolve the conflict, while the voters of the rest of the parties believe that it should be the management of public services .

central government

In the central government’s assessment, despite the average grade being 4.41, 54.4% approve it, 45.3% suspend it, 0.2% don’t know it and 0.1% don’t. answers.

As with the Catalan Executive, the assessment remains stable with respect to recent years, and according to the voters of each party, the best assessments and the only ones who approve of the Government of Pedro Sanchez they are the socialist electorate (5.82) and that of the ‘comuns’ (5.67), while the third best score is from the ERC voters (4.54).

Assessment of administrations

Another question is what image the respondents have about the administration of the Generalitat: 49.4% see it very or quite positive, 40.6% very or quite negative, and 7.9% neither positive nor negative. some figures that point to a deterioration of the perception of the Catalan administration by the citizens.

In fact, Muñoz has pointed out that a “wear“When you ask about the administration of the Generalitat but when you ask about specific areas you don’t see so much.
