The CIA warned Germany that an attack on gas pipelines was being prepared

The Swedish police have just filed a criminal complaint related to the damage caused by the gas leaks detected in the gas pipelines Nord Stream 1 and 2 are causing south of Bornholm, in the Baltic Sea. Swedish Prime Minister, Magdalena Anderson, in charge of an interim government and waiting for a new coalition to be formed after the elections held this month, has assured the Swedes that “we are probably facing a case of sabotage” and “that even a transitional government can act with full force in a situation like this.” The Swedish intelligence services, the Säkerhetspolisen, and the Swedish Armed Forces have already opened a joint investigation. “The incident in the Russian gas pipeline is, of course, serious,” the Swedish Armed Forces have acknowledged on Twitter.

As published by the German weekly Der Spiegel, the CIA had previously warned the Berlin government, led by Social Democrat Olaf Scholz, that it had collected evidence that an attack on the Nord Stream gas pipeline was being prepared. The data of this warning would have coincided with those offered a posteriori by the Danish Minister of Climate and Energy, Dan Jørgensen, whose geological experts have confirmed that there was an explosion in Nord Stream, 2 southeast of Bornholm, at 2:03 am on Monday, with a magnitude of 1.9, and another at 7:03 p.m. on the same day in Nord Stream 1, northeast of the island, with a magnitude of 2.3. Both gas lines are in a water depth of between 70 to 80 meters and are made of steel and concrete. The size of the leaks and the depth indicate that this cannot be an accident, even with a ship’s anchor.

Peter Schmidt, responsible for the Swedish National Seismic Network (NORSAR), has reported that “two massive and sudden releases of energy” were recorded shortly before and near the site of the gas leaks off the coast of the island of Bornholm, “we interpret it as coming, with a very high probability , from some kind of detonation.” NORSAR has also confirmed another “smaller” explosion.

The governments of Poland and Latvia have inquired about the details of the investigation. The Latvian Foreign Minister has judged that “it seems that we are in a new phase of the hybrid war” and the Polish Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawieckihas declared for his part that “we still do not know all the details, but we can clearly see that it has been an act of sabotage” and has described the coordinated attacks on the Nord Stream gas pipeline as “the next stage in the escalation of the situation we face in Ukraine’.

In German security circles, the possibility of a false flag operation is openly pointed out, pointing out that, to damage a tube at a depth of up to 90 meters, submarines would probably be the method of choice. For divers equipped with explosives, for example, the undertaking would be too risky and could hardly be implemented in various places in the Baltic Sea at the moment. Ship traffic can usually be tracked with tracking data. However, ships and submarines can also turn off their transponders and thus disappear from radar.

Territorial waters on alert

The Danish and Swedish authorities have informed Germany and Norway that they have placed their respective territorial waters on alert. “The Danish and Swedish authorities have already taken security measures and continue to clarify the matter,” acknowledged the spokeswoman for German Economy Minister Robert Habeck, which means that “concrete measures will be announced that companies in the electricity and gas sectors they will need to put in place to ensure safety, such as new systems, buildings and facilities.”
