The Civil Guard points to four former ETA chiefs for the order to assassinate Miguel Ángel Blanco

The Civil Guard has sent a report to the judge of the National High Court that investigates the intellectual authorship of the murder in 1997 of Miguel Ángel Blanco, in which he places four former heads of the terrorist group ETA after the order that triggered the kidnapping and execution of the young PP councilor in Ermua: Kantauri, Mikel Antza, Iñaki de Renteria and Anboto.

Judge Manuel García Castellón is investigating whether the Zuba, the executive committee of the terrorist group, was behind that order, investigations that have intensified with a recent complaint of Dignity and Justice directed against the entire ETA leadership, including, in addition to those now indicated by the Civil Guard, Juan Carlos Iglesias Chouzas, alias Gaddafi; Asier Oyarzabal, Vicente Goicoechea, Jokin Echevarría and Carlos Ibarguren.

In this context, the instructor requested reports from the police forces. The Ertzaintza has already contributed its own, identifying José Javier Arizcuren Ruiz, alias Kantauri, as the head of ETA who gave the order to execute the councilman, although it left the door open for the participation of more members of the executive, this being a terrorist group. a structured organization with defined roles.

Now, the Civil Guard, in a report of more than 200 pages accompanied by thousands of pages of documentation in annexes, goes one step further. He points out that the entire ETA executive in 1997 participated in the barbarity. That is, Mikel Albisu, alias Mikel Antza; Ignacio Gracia Arregui, known as Iñaki de Rentería, and María Soledad Iparraguirre, that is, Anboto.

It does so with two premises on the table. The first, that years of investigations have shown that nothing in ETA moved without the impetus of the leadership at any given time, an absolutely hierarchical form of internal functioning that “He has remained stable in ETA throughout his criminal history”. In this context, the four mentioned have firm sentences behind them that place them, with one role or another, at the top of the terrorist group.

«From the recruitment of an individual for his integration into the terrorist organization to the authorization of the murder of a person, all activity was ordered and directed by this management structure, which also made available to the performers the material means necessary for its materialization, “says the report.

The second, that since 1993 the strategy had turned and sought, fundamentally, “destabilization.” The councilors and specifically, those of the PP, became a priority objective. It was a “qualitative leap in ETA’s terrorist action” which, according to the Civil Guard, «it did not occur by mere chance, but was the result of a thoughtful debate» which triggered the intention to “directly attack political representatives”, since they presumed that they would thus cause more terror “than criminal acts against the Security Forces and Corps”.
