The cloud: the main accelerator of innovation for companies

It is expected that by 2023, 35% of companies globally will establish processes in the cloud, either in multicloud or hybrid models, which will allow companies to move their workloads to the environment that suits them best.

As the pandemic accelerated the process of digital transformation, both for companies and homes in the world, the growing generation of data and its need to process it faster and faster, prompted the adoption of cloud architectures, initially centralized, to move towards hybrid structures, and in the short term, consolidate its operation on the edge.

According to IDC projections, by 2023, 35% of companies will establish processes in the cloud to focus on business results instead of prioritizing the requirements of own IT (on premise).

Cloud computing is becoming the main accelerator of innovation for companies, since through it processes can be automated at greater speed, applications distributed between different architectures, as required, and data protection centralized. for more efficient security management.

However, a challenge that companies are currently facing is the process of migrating their applications. There are numerous experiences of moving critical systems to the cloud, under the “lift and shift” strategy, which consists of moving your own application and its data without redesigning it.

In this dynamic, IDC forecasts that by 2024 most legacy applications will need to receive some investment to be modernized, expanding their functionality and removing inefficient code. However, although migration to cloud environments is the trend, 35% of applications end up being repatriated to local environments, mainly due to the high conversion costs.

As companies adopt cloud-first strategies to build cloud-native solutions, saving money on software, platforms and infrastructure; Deployments based on refactoring, which involve a complete reconstruction of applications, and those based on replatforming, such as remodeling of operating systems and platforms, will also increase.

The objective of these processes is to achieve efficiency improvements by taking advantage of the scalability and flexibility capabilities offered by cloud environments.

In short, the proliferation of cloud solutions, where multicloud and hybrid models prevail, will allow companies to move their workloads to the environment that suits them best, which is already including distribution to edge processing environments .

During 2022 the cloud will continue to specialize in the extremes of the network, taking its advantages towards a greater number of devices and economic activities.
