The fifth stop of the Cutty Sark FKSS 2021 will be held this coming weekend on the island of Formentera. Almost fifty Kite Foil sailors, representing ten different countries, have registered to participate from Friday to Sunday in a test that will once again have the Open category and the F-One FKSS Amateur. The Open will be three days of competition starting on Friday the 22nd while the amateurs will go to the water on Saturday the 23rd and Sunday the 24th in the paradisiacal beach of Illetes.
It has been five months of waiting since Axel Mazella will win the last stage of the circuit in Castellón. The Frenchman thus joined the list of winners of the season in which maximum equality has marked the future of the year. The first regatta of the season in CN S’Arenal de Mallorca was won by the Russian Denis Taradin, the second in Palamós was for the one who this past week has been proclaimed World Champion in Sardinia, the Frenchman Theo de Ramecourt. In Valencia the victory went to the Englishman Connor Bainbridge. These four sailors have been among the top ten in the World Championship of the specialty, which shows the high level of competition that the Cutty Sark FKSS 2021 circuit has.
And what is already clear is that, in Formentera, except for a last minute surprise, there will be a fifth winner since none of the four has confirmed their presence in Formentera. Thus, the great favorite for the victory on the island is the current leader of the general of the Cutty Sark FKSS 2021, the Valencian Alejandro Climent. His consistency has raised him to the leadership of the circuit as he has always been fighting for the top positions and his best result was second in the opening round of the season in Mallorca.
Climent: “I am eager to arrive”
Climent explains about his participation in the recent Kite Foil World Championship and his presence in Formentera defending the leadership: “The World Cup has had a very high level and we have been more prepared than the European. The results have not been very good, although they have not gone bad. The truth is that in light wind we have lost a lot. Now, in the face of Formentera, I arrive with a lot of desire to compete. The truth is that it is an incredible place and I want to go back and I want to do my best. My goal is to arrive in Tarifa with a certain cushion of points to face the last test of the season with guarantees of getting my third title in the FKSS. It will be open, I think Mikhail can be a good rival and Santos the Mexican can also be a tough enemy and I don’t forget my Valencian teammates who have been pushing very hard. Anyone can surprise ”.
Along with Climent, already a two-time winner of the FKSS in 2018 and 2019, will be sailors with a great future such as the Valencians Kiko Peiró, Sebastián Ducos, Jacobo Espí or the Russian Mikhail Novikov. In women, the great favorite to win in Formentera will be the Russian Valeria Garashchenko in the absence of Gisela Pulido who was recently eleventh in the Formula Kite World Championship.
Record in F-One
Where the participation record will be broken is in the F-One FKSS Amateur class. In this specialty everyone uses the material provided by F-ONE in the boards and foils, only kites should be brought to the regattas. In this category the leader of the general is the Dianense Paco Peiró with a succulent income on Pau Soler who has also registered in the Balearic event. In this category, sailors who are starting in the specialty participate and in it there is room for both the most veteran who do not make the jump to the Open as the young promises of the specialty.
Sergio W. Smit, Director of the Cutty Sark FKSS, notes: “We already wanted to go back to racing! And as you can see in the inscriptions… the sailors too. We are very happy to bring this show to Formentera with the support of the Club de Vela Formentera, the Consell Insular and Balearia where last year we had an incredible atmosphere on the beach of Illetes. Participation in the F-One FKSS Amateur class shows the great health of the circuit and what tells us that we are going in the right direction with this class that aims to promote the sport of the Kite formula among the people ”.
