40 years later, the mythical DeLorean DMC-12 returns to the present, but now it has become a luxury electric car. Here the first teaser of Italdesign.
Between 1981 and 1982 one of the most spectacular cars that the automobile industry has produced and also one of the most unique and enigmatic was manufactured. Shortly after its launch, the company went bankrupt. 40 years later, the famous DeLorean DMC-12 returns to the present converted into an electric car.
The past no longer exists and the future is uncertain, while now is a gift, that’s why it’s called a present. And this is the gift of italdesign for fans of the ‘Back to the Future’ saga and for many motor fans in general: the DeLorean Evolved.
This is the name of the resurrected DMC-12 in electric format and focused on luxury, designed by the Italian company itself, the same one that designed the original DMC-12, coming out of the pencil of Giorgetto Giugiaro.

Italdesign has released a new teaser of the future model that will be built by DeLorean Motor Companywhose owner is Stephen Wynethe Liverpool-born engineer, based in Humble, Texas.
This new teaser comes a year after the Italian company presented the first preview. At that time, he wore DMC name on the front and has now been replaced by a V.
From the hashtags used, we deduce that the model will receive the name of Returned. Being a teaser, we can hardly see many details, only that it will have the famous gull-wing doors.
As the post’s hashtags suggest, the new DeLorean DMC-12 will be called EVolved. Although we cannot see much more in the image, a very dynamic silhouettewith the characteristics upright doorsa sculpted hood and a led light line that runs along the front, drawing a V.

At the moment, there is no information on prices and availability of the car, although it is very likely that its production will be limited to a small number of units.
The Italian company partnered with Williams Advanced Engineering to jointly develop a EVX modular platformwho gave life to a high performance GT for a low-volume automaker like DeLorean.
The architecture dedicated to the electric car can provide a power of up to 1,000 kW/1,360 hp and a maximum range of 1,000km.
Officially launched in August
After revealing the first teaser images a few days ago, Italdesign and DeLorean have announced that the new EVolved will be presented at the Pebble Beach 2022 Concourse of Elegance, the next August 21.
“We are very excited that the next evolution of the DeLorean brand will be represented by our historic partnership with Italdesign, and a vehicle that will showcase our vision for the future,” said Troy Beetz, DeLorean CEO.
This means that there are barely less than six months left for the electric return of a myth such as the DeLorean.
