The best female crews conquered the Biscayan waters of the Abra during the first day of the ‘II International Women’s Sailing Cup’, a competition organized by the Real Club Marítimo del Abra-Real Sporting Club with the sponsorship of Euskadiko Kirol Portuak. This special test began dominated by the aspiring boat for the final triumph, Marta Garrido’s ‘Dorsia Covirán Sailing Team’, which already prevailed in this competition at its premiere last year. The girls of the Marina Burriananova club made two first places and a second place and appear leaders in the general with 4 points, for the 12 of the Cantabrian ‘Biobizz Women’ of María Sánchez, the Andalusian ‘Marbella Women Team’ of Marta Fernández de la Higuera and the ‘AGD’ by Helena Alegre, from the Real Club Náutico de Palma. Fifth and sixth are the Basque crews of Carmen Galdós’s ‘Fingolfin’ and Olatz Muñoz’s ‘Decoexsa’, both with 13 points. The first day was developed with north-northwest winds of 8 to 12 knots, with little wind at the beginning that increased as the competition progressed. The excitement is between the second and the sixth place, with only one point of difference. The ‘Dorsia Covirán’, for his part, is close to reissuing his title with three tours to be held.
The crew of the ‘Dorsia Covirán Sailing Team’ of the Valencian club Marina Burriananova, skippered by Marta Garrido, prevailed in the first tour scheduled by the regatta committee after their fight with the ‘Marbella Team Woman’ of Marta Hernández de la Higuera, crew of the Real Club Marítimo de Sotogrande that was second when it was traced back by the favorites. In third position, the Balearic ‘AGD’ by Helena Alegre was classified, with Carmen Galdós’ ‘Fingolfin Women’s Team’ as the first local classified in fourth place. Fifth was the ‘Decoexsa’ by Olatz Muñoz. Already in the second test, the girls from the host club’s ‘Fingolfin’ won a meritorious partial victory. They already have forever the honor of being the boat that prevailed on the route that marked the debut of this championship in 2020, and in this second edition they repeated with an exciting final ahead of the ‘Dorsia Covirán Sailing Team’, with the ‘AGD ‘third and the Cantabrian’ Biobizz Women ‘in fourth place. The ‘Decoexsa’ from Gipuzkoa, runner-up last year, finished in fifth place again. The third and last route of the first day was taken, like the opening, the ‘Dorsia Covirán’, with the ‘Biobizz’ second and the ‘Decoexsa’ third. The ‘Fingolfin’ was penalized for his eighth position in this third test, which was the most stable in the wind.
