The turbulent plenary session this Thursday in Congress showed that the Government and the PP of Alberto Núñez Feijóo remain where they were when Pablo Casado led the popular: without any agreement, after the negotiation of the anti-crisis plan barely rehearsed by the Executive and the leading opposition party will be shipwrecked victim, according to Pedro Sánchez, of the “unhealthy politics” of its rivals and, according to Feijóo, of the president’s “compromise” to seat EH Bildu for the first time in the official secrets commission. But something has changed with respect to ‘casadismo’. The ‘new PP’ has stripped of drama, which means that Moncloa ties its fate, a little more, to the nationalist left that colluded in the past with ETA to subscribe to the pragmatism that it believes is most useful to prop up Feijóo’s presidential profile.

Which means that the conservative formation is not going to interpret the result of this Thursday’s plenary session as an invitation to give up its strategy of exploring country consensus. «This is the still photo of a moment. We are not going to veto absolutely anything. What else would Sánchez like for us to get up from the table, ”they maintain in the Galician leader’s team. And although the popular do not cease to be outraged by the importance that the five seats of the Basque pro-independence left have acquired – “If Bildu is above the interests of Spanish families, it is not up to me to explain it, but to denounce it,” said Feijóo -, it does not seem that they are going to transform it into a tragedy but, rather, into an opportunity. Thus, they will persevere in their “interest in agreeing with the Government”, convinced that, with each relevant vote that passes and empowers its partners, Sánchez accentuates “an unprecedented precariousness” and aggravates their “problems of survival”.

the lost story

“Today they are weaker than two months ago. They will see if they can continue living like this, ”summarize the sources consulted, who do not venture, however, if the legislature is going to die before its time. Since he became president of the party a month ago, Feijóo has offered Sánchez “state pacts” to strengthen the centrality against “the extremes” -Podemos and Vox-, but also in order to break the arguments of the socialists of that it is the stubbornness of the PP that blocks any understanding. The popular ones believe that if Sánchez continues to rely on ERC and EH Bildu, it will be evident that he “prefers” them to an opposition leader who proposes a “moderate” alternative to agreements. And that the president will end up “paying for it” because he has lost that story.

Bildu saves the Government's anti-crisis decree

The prolegomena of the plenary session and its celebration had much of a struggle for the story. The PP interpreted the call made by Minister Bolaños, the government’s chief negotiator, to Cuca Gamarra late on Wednesday afternoon as the confirmation that he urged him to find support and sounded out his tricks. The popular ones say that they did not decide their vote until they verified the attitude of the Executive in Congress and how the vote was being decided, waiting for some more gesture -for example, exhausting the negotiation until May 9, when the validation period expired of the decree – which never came to pass. Bolaños objects that he was clear about the PP’s no since he spoke with Gamarra.

The popular draw two more conclusions from the plenary session this Thursday: by tying itself to EH Bildu, the Government will not be able to reproach other alliances with the others – that is, theirs with Vox-; and the socialists erode their ‘classical’ and more critical electorate. “They have gone from the GAL to agree with the nationalist left”, they malice in the ranks of Genoa.
