The Ministry of Territorial Policy and Public Function has approved to allocate to 23 municipalities of the province a total of 10,389,346 euros in aid to fix infrastructure and municipally owned assets that resulted in damage due to DANA in September 2019. The towns, which were the most affected, presented projects to the Government for an amount from 24,006,043 euros, of which the Ministry subsidizes a maximum of 50% and the rest of the money must be provided by the municipalities.

The bulk of the aid is destined to finance projects to fix damages that the municipalities of Vega Baja presented, which was the region most affected by the cold drop. In fact, 90% of the subsidies will go to this region, a total of 9,639,253 euros of the 22,478,463 euros that the 12 municipalities of Bajo Segura graced with the aid had presented to the state.

The town that will receive the most money in its municipal coffers is Almoradí, where the overflowing of the Segura river caused a real catastrophe. They will be a total of 6.4 million euros (60% of the money allocated to the province in state aid), of the 15,950,856 euros in damage to infrastructure and municipal assets that the City Council technicians have estimated. Its mayor, María Gómez, was exulted yesterday by the resolution and told INFORMATION that half of the grant money, about 3 million, will go to the settlement of the sewerage of the municipality, which was collapsed by the force of the water and numerous sinkholes due to the breakdown of the network. «They have only rejected new works because that subsidy only allowed repairs, but we are very happy and now we have to contribute the remaining 50% and we are looking at the remnants, in addition to the fact that there are works that we have already carried out of actions that it was urgent to do for the damages, “said Gomez.

In Orihuela, the City Council will enter a total of 1,242,595 euros in two lines of aid, one of 742,898 euros for asphalting roads and rural roads, most districts, and 499,697 to solve the problems that DANA caused in the Palacio del Marqués de Arneva, headquarters of the City Council. “The Town Hall received damage to the foundations and roofs and with this money we will fix it, in addition to adapting the roads that were damaged,” explained the mayor of Emergencies, Víctor Valverde.

The municipalities benefiting from the aid must now tender the projects, which will mean an average of three months, to start the works and thus be able to justify the subsidy to the Ministry. In the case of smaller municipalities, the mayors will ask the Provincial Council for the more than six million promised in aid by DANA to be able to pay 50% of these projects. This is the case of Bigastro or Granja de Rocamora, among others, who recognize that without these aid it would be difficult to face half of the investment. In Bigastro There are a total of 21 projects that the central executive will subsidize with a total of 370.953 euros of the 777,011 in which the damage to municipal property is estimated. “We are very satisfied and it will mainly be used to fix the infrastructures of the garden, the sports center or the swimming pool,” explained the councilor of Bigastro, Teresa Belmonte. In Rocamora Farm, its mayor Javier Mora now hopes to receive provincial aid to defray the half million euros he needs to cover the total cost of repairing his sports center, after receiving another from the state Half a million. “If the Provincial Council can help us for that contribution of the perfect 50%, because the state gives us the money for the work carried out, but it only subsidizes half,” he lamented.

In Pilar de la Horadada will receive 228.794 euros for channeling, rural roads, and road network. In Callosa de Segura are 209,119 euros aid for sanitation renovation projects. In San Fulgencio, 213,436 euros for “for the sports center, paddle tennis courts or soccer field that were in poor condition, and we will do whatever the money comes to,” said the mayor of the town, José Sampere. Los Montesinos will receive 22,734 euros, Dolores 65,821, Daya Vieja 147,773, Algorfa 71,006 and Jacarilla, 165,617 euros state grant for five projects.
