The incidence of coronavirus in the province rises to almost 4,000 although it falls in five departments



The incidence of the coronavirus in the province of Alicante rises again and is already at 3,983.71 active cases per 100,000 inhabitants, according to data published this Friday by the Ministry of Health, although it falls in five health departments. At this time there are 73,453 sick people in the entire demarcation, 1,242 more than in the previous revision of the data, on Tuesday of this week. In these three days, 24,162 infections have been reported.

Active cases are rising sharply in the departments of Elche-Hospital General, Elche-Crevillent, Orihuela and Torrevieja, that is, in the Baix Vinalopó and Vega Baja regions, as well as in the southernmost extreme of Medio Vinalopó. These areas, precisely, had so far suffered a minor impact throughout this sixth wave. In the area of ​​the General Hospital of Elche, 3,367 positives have been registered in three days, and the number of those affected has risen by 1,023, so that the contagion rate amounts to 4,688.03. For its part, in Elche-Cervillent it stands at 3,851.32, and at 3,829.1 in Orihuela, while in Torrevieja it is at 2,503.83. Among the municipalities in these counties that exceed the average provincial incidence, Aspe, Elche and Santa Pola stand out, with 4,633.72, 4,438.06 and 4,140.77, respectively. Orihuela is at 3,655.82 and Torrevieja at 2,297.94.

The index also rises in the department of Dénia, which reaches 4,324.1 active cases per 100,000 inhabitants, although here the increase is slighter than in the extreme south of the province. In the entire area there are now 7,378 sick people, 293 more than last Tuesday. Dénia is, among the main municipalities of the Marina Alta, the one with one of the lowest rates, 3,689.26. Instead, Benissa reaches 6,218.99, Teulada at 5,710.23 and Xàbia at 4,265.42.

On the other hand, the situation improves in the areas of Alcoy, the Marina Baixa, Elda, Alicante-Hospital General and Sant Joan d’Alacant. Of course, the progress is especially notable in the two departments around the capital, with decreases in the number of people affected by 1,051 individuals in Sant Joan and 1,037 in the General Hospital. The incidence in the first is reduced to 3,504.61, and to 4,180.8 in the second. In any case, they are still very large figures, which are also repeated at a local level. The city of Alicante has a lower rate than the provincial average, 3,726.12, but San Vicente del Raspeig does exceed it with 4,861.13. Sant Joan d’Alacant is also above 4,000, with 4,021.83.

Despite the decline, the departments of Elda and Alcoy maintain the highest indicators in the province, with 4,840.74 and 4,822.41 active cases per 100,000 inhabitants, respectively. Most of the large towns in Alto and Medio Vinalopó exceed the average provincial incidence, with 5,560.59 in Petrer as the highest figure. Novelda follows with 5,302.82, while Elda stands at 4,983.62 and Villena at 4,722.59. In l’Alcoià and El Comtat, for its part, Alcoy now presents the worst figure among the main municipalities, with a rate of 5,256.6, although the rest also exceed 4,000; among others, Castalla is at 4,942.17, Ibi at 4,702.09 and Cocentaina at 4,626.74.

Finally, the Marina Baixa drops to a rate of 3,292.13, and in Benidorm the indicator is even lower: 2,830.1. In this region, the only important municipality where the incidence is now above the provincial average is Callosa d’en Sarrià, with 5,503.86.
