The Local Police of Trujillo keeps the pulse so that a series of rights are recognized

The agents have stopped making reinforcements, which means that some services are not covered

The continuous ‘pull and loosen’ between the City Council and the Local Police group is not new. For years, it has been present in different legislatures and with different mayors. Now, a new chapter is relived. Currently, the agents have stopped making reinforcements, since they are volunteers. This decision was made on February 1. This measure, together with the lack of personnel, means that some services cannot be covered and that, on certain shifts, there are no agents or only one. An example of this was the Saturday night of Carnival, when there was no police.

The staff delegate of the UGT union, Oscar Crespo, explains that this situation arises from two main problems. One of them is precisely that lack of personnel in the squad, which has been reduced over the years due to retirements and the departure of other colleagues to places with better conditions.

Currently, the city has 11 officers to do shifts, in addition to the chief officer. Hence, lately, there have been long-term casualties. In addition, this delegate advances that, at present, there are four policemen from this staff who have begun the procedures to be part of the selection process to leave Trujillo in a few months, precisely looking for job improvements.

The other great stumbling block is the lack of recognition of what they consider a right, such as the specific complements when it comes to doing nights, Sundays, holidays and shifts. “They have lied to us for 18 years,” says Crespo. It is because they had always been told, as he relates, that those rights were being collected. However, after reviewing documentation a few months ago, they realized that they were not being taken into account, says this representative.

Crespo also points out that, with the List of Jobs (RPT) of 2004, these concepts were not paid. «Not because we put on a police uniform we have the obligation to do nights, Sundays or holidays. There is no state regulation that forces you. It must be included in an RPT, with specific accessories », he adds.

The 2017 RPT did include those concepts. He emphasizes that it was approved unanimously by all political parties and trade union forces. Despite this, he points out that the current government team said that it was not going to apply it and was going to take the 2004 one as a reference. However, “it changed its mind a few weeks ago and recognized that the RPT in force is the one from 2017 that they would make certain modifications and apply it”.

Once it is applied, Oscar Crespo assures that the agents will return to nights and cover the parties and events “to help them take place with all the necessary security measures.”

Beyond these claims, the government team has already been made aware that, with the current situation of the police, road safety and public safety cannot be guaranteed. Likewise, it is recalled that there are a series of powers that belong to local agents.

This problem can be aggravated with the arrival of events such as Holy Week, Chíviri and the Cheese Fair.
