In an operation of the National Intelligence Center (CNI) of Mexico coordinated with the Army and the Attorney General’s Office, Rosalinda González Valencia, wife of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias ‘El Mencho’, considered the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), one of the most important criminal groups in Mexico. The detainee has passed to the disposition of the competent judicial authorities at the Federal Center for Social Readaptation No. 16 ‘CPS Femenil Morelos’ in Coatlán del Río, Morelos.

Rosalinda was captured on Monday, November 15 in Zapopan (Jalisco), a residential area on the outskirts of Guadalajara (state capital), due to various crimes, but as reported by Milenio indicated by illicit financial operation of an organized crime group.

According to the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) the arrest has meant a significant blow to the financial structure of organized crime in the state of Jalisco.

It is not the first time that the wife of the cartel boss has been arrested since in May 2018 it was incarcerated for organized crime in order to commit the crime of money laundering. On that occasion, she was even held in the same prison. According to El País, a federal judge linked her to the process for being related to a network of 73 companies that laundered 1,100 million pesos for the cartel between 2015 and 2016. However, she was exonerated for the crime of organized crime and released after payment of one and a half million Mexican pesos (about 64,000 euros) since the accusation for the alleged crime of operations with resources of illicit origin does not entail preventive detention.

‘El Mencho’, unaccounted for

‘El Mencho’, the prisoner’s husband, remains unaccounted for and is in the crosshairs of the United States Anti-Drug Agency (DEA), which offers a reward of ten million dollars (8.8 million euros). The operation to find him in 2015 was unsuccessful, in which a military helicopter equipped with a rocket launcher was shot down. The sounded arrest of his wife takes place a few days after his brother was extradited to the United States from Brazil, as a member of the financial arm of the criminal group. Also, another of his brothers continues in jail and is considered a collaborator of the Prosecutor’s Office as a witness in the Ayotzinapa case, in which 43 students disappeared.

A new mission against criminal gangs between the United States and Mexico, augurs these new arrests after the signing of the ‘Bicentennial Framework for security, public health and safe communities’ that buried the ‘Merida Initiative’, the security agreement that It went back to the end of George Bush’s term. The notorious arrest comes after a visit in early October by Blinken, the United States Security Officer, who met with the Mexican Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard, and President López Obrador, who planned to “share information to detect the money laundering, inhibiting its facilitators and working to prevent corruption from continuing to poison our societies and harm our citizens.
