The experts who analyzed the mobile of one of the defendants in the attacks of August 17, 2017 in Catalonia, Driss Oukabir, in whose name the van of the hit-and-run was rented in Las Ramblas (Barcelona), have revealed that They found searches on construction machinery the days before the massacre.
In this Thursday’s session, the last until January after Christmas, the agents of the Mossos d’Esquadra and the Civil Guard who prepared the expert report on electronic devices The three accused were intervened: the two alleged members of the jihadist cell, Mohamed Houli and Driss Oukabir, and the alleged collaborator, Said Ben Iazza.
According to the experts in charge of reviewing Oukabir’s mobile, the accused consulted from Tangier several advertisements for the rental of construction machinery, such as mechanical bulls, excavators or lifting platforms.
As it did not have any type of link with the construction sector and neither a license to drive any of these machines, the Civil Guard concluded in its report that they were used to commit future attacks, and in this regard they have recalled that the van with which the Las Ramblas attacks were committed was rented in their name.
Another image that the agents considered important for the investigation was one they found of several off-road vehicles with the rear end loaded with heavy weapons. In addition, on the phone they found photographs of jihadist content. In one of them appeared two hooded people with balaclavas and headbands with inscriptions in Arabic in which, according to experts, you could read “brigades” and “resistance”.
In this same device, 38 audios related to the Koran were found and, in some of them, reference was made to jihad and martyrdom. The experts have also highlighted that at least two different telephone lines were installed in that device, and one of them, which was in the name of Moussa Oukabir, one of the terrorists who died in the Cambrils attack, It was located in a car located at the scene of the attack in this town.
To avoid leaving evidence, the defendants also deleted WhatsApp conversations and contacts, so the agents were only able to recover part of the content. Other searches they found were related to the Tcharmil: youth gangs in South America with low social strata that show off on social media and in the public highway of machetes and large knives.
Regarding other electronic devices analyzed, they have also exposed the Youssef Alla’s computer findings, killed in the Alcanar explosion, and who had become radicalized in 2015. In it they found a photograph shared by Mohamed Houli Chemlal in which he sees two terrorists who attacked the satirical magazine ‘Charlie Hebdo’ on January 7, 2015 finishing off on the ground with a rifle.
On the phone, hard drive and computer of defendant Said Ben Iazza, the agents also located content related to the attacks in Barcelona. At the end of the session, the president of the court, Alfonso Guevara, wished the participants in the trial happy holidays, since it will not resume until January 11 with the declaration of more experts.
