The Mobile Week connects technology with the citizens of all of Catalonia


For the fourth consecutive year, the Generalitat and the Fundació Mobile World Capital Barcelona promote Mobile Week Catalunya, with the aim of promoting a space where citizens connect with technology. This year, Mobile Week Catalunya is held in 16 towns and territories of Cataloniabringing the news of the digital world closer in different formats and open and free activities aimed at the different age groups of the population.

There are more than 300 activities for all ages, with 500 speakers around the territory and more than 450 hours of learning where citizens can experience, learn and reflect on technology. With proposals as varied as workshops to provide older people with basic digital skills that give them autonomy in aspects such as electronic banking, electronic commerce; o robotics and activities for the little ones on STEAM vocations (science, technology, engineering, graphic arts and mathematics); passing through talks to teenagers to combat misinformation, training for self-employed professionals and SMEs to digitize their business and improve cybersecurity, exploring tablets adapted for the elderly to promote their use or experiencing new virtual worlds such as a laboratory of immersive reality.

This year Badalona, ​​Centelles, Figueres, Girona, Igualada, La Seu d’Urgell, Lleida, Manresa, Mataró, Mollerussa, Olesa de Montserrat, Ribera d’Ebre, Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Sant Pere de Ribes have joined the initiative. , Sitges, Terrassa and Vilanova i la Geltrú, with programs full of free proposals that place to the citizens in the center and make them participants in the technological revolution.

The program of activities addresses three great thematic lines such as the guarantee of human rights in the digital spheres (including data privacy); the promotion of learning how to use digital tools in all age groups and of vocations among young people – specifically among female profiles – for STEAM careers; and the exploration of new tools and virtual worlds in the field of culture and entertainment.

This is a clear commitment by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Fundació Mobile World Capital Barcelona to address digital divides and reach the maximum of citizenship from around the country so that they can enjoy, learn and reflect on the digital transformation in the current context.

The Vice President of the Government, Jordi Puigneró, assures that “we want the impact of the Mobile World Congress to reach the entire country. The digital revolution can be the social elevator of this country If we know how to prepare and train citizens, we will provide towns and cities with digital infrastructures and promote a new digital economy. We will not be a social country if we are not also, in its entirety, a digital country”.

Likewise, the person in charge of Mobile World Capital Barcelona’s Mobile Week, Cristina Colom, has reaffirmed the need for there to be the commitment of all actors in society to reduce the digital gaps and to make a call to “continue inspiring, debating and experimenting as a way to raise awareness and understand firsthand the advantages and challenges that digital transformation poses in our society”.
