The Board of Directors of the Valdepasillas, Ordenandos and Perpetuo Socorro neighborhood association has once again requested the Badajoz City Council to build an underground car park, a request that was made some time ago and was approved in 2011 by the Development Commission. “In successive meetings that have been held with the mayor and the municipal government team, we have stated this and it was promised,” they add.

According to the neighborhood association in a note, the future parking lot would be built on Godofredo Ortega y Muñoz street and even had an economic endowment of 90,000 euros assigned to write the project.

However, in recent weeks the neighbors have observed how areas to park vehicles are being cleaned with gravel and tar, since the City Council is remodeling six public spaces in the neighborhood to enable them as parking areas. These spaces, recalls the association, are intended for the construction of areas for public use such as green areas, schools, health centers, administrative buildings, sports facilities or for cultural equipment for associations.

For this reason, they assure that the City Council itself is breaching the urban plan by using these areas for the construction of car parks when they are not intended for this and because the cost involved is almost 400,000 euros. With this expense, they have pointed out in a press release, they justify that it is not necessary to build the promised parking lot.

“The neighborhood continues to grow in population and extension and parking is a priority need both for the people who live in the neighborhoods and for the administrative centers that have been built in recent years,” they state, citing the State Library, the OAR , the fiscal services of the Board, the Traffic Headquarters, Administrative services of the Provincial Council, the Hydrographic Confederation and the Local Police Headquarters, among others.

In addition, they note that the José Pérez Jiménez de Valdepasillas Park is abandoned after the elimination of the children’s play area and in that space the wood and steel plate of the work continue, obstacles that entail a danger for children. who play there.

They also state that the City Council has failed in another agreed promise: the construction of a Civic Center. They assure that the neighborhood of Valdepasillas needs a municipal administrative center that facilitates the management and the relationship between the residents and the City Council so that they can develop their own projects that are an example for possible citizen initiatives and associations.
