Renfe will put tickets on sale tomorrow for journeys from July 19 with 30,000 promotional seats until September

The new train between Badajoz and Madrid will have a daily service in each direction from July 19. To this will be added another one with a Talgo like the one that currently works. At the moment, 51 minutes of travel will be saved on the connection between Badajoz and Madrid; 44 minutes between Monfragüe and Badajoz; 25 minutes between Badajoz and Cáceres or 20 between Cáceres and Mérida.

The Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, has announced that starting tomorrow, Friday, tickets will go on sale, which will have 30,000 promotional seats until September. Prices are still unknown.

Raquel Sánchez has participated in the first travel test between Plasencia and Badajoz, on a line that combines the new sections of the high-speed platform with routes by conventional track at the entrances to Plasencia, Cáceres, Mérida and Badajoz. The minister was accompanied by the president of the Junta de Extremadura, Guillermo Fernández Vara, as well as authorities from Renfe, Adif and the regional government.

In a statement upon arrival in Badajoz in which no questions were allowed, he indicated that the new line will have “a daily one-way service.” In other words, only one S-730 train will work, which will make a round trip and a return trip on the same day. As TODAY has learned, Renfe will add another daily service, but in this case with the Talgo that is already running today.

The first phase of the commissioning of this line will be completed with the electrification of the section between Plasencia and Badajoz. The Minister of Transport has indicated that this work will be completed in the first half of next year.

As for the rest of the line to Madrid, he pointed out that the works on the seven sections between Plasencia and Talayuela continue at a good pace, all of which are already completed or underway.

Regarding the laying between Oropesa and Madrid, he has indicated that this summer the informative study will be submitted to an environmental evaluation, the first step to be able to start the processing of the works. “Today nothing ends, we start many more things,” he said.

Sánchez has acknowledged that “many years have passed waiting to end an injustice that, to a greater or lesser extent, we have all been responsible for.”

The minister has apologized for a line that maintained telephone blocks and speed limits of 50 kilometers per hour. For this reason, she has stated that it was “absolutely a priority” to speed up the arrival of “high speed to Extremadura”.

Likewise, he recalled that the renewal of the fleet, a material reliability plan, actions on the tracks, review of the action protocols and a new maintenance base in Badajoz have been carried out.

He has also highlighted the improvements in the conventional network, to which 70 million euros have been dedicated in the last three years.

For his part, the president of the Junta de Extremadura, Guillermo Fernández Vara, stressed that the commissioning of the new train between Plasencia and Badajoz “is without a doubt an important first step, but we still have many steps ahead”. Likewise, he has stressed that it is a first step of 1,200 million euros, the estimated investment for the line that was launched today.

Along with this, he highlighted the importance of the Railway Pact so that “it was not the merit of anyone and it was the merit of everyone”, as well as the attendance at the demonstrations that took place to demand a decent train for the region.

Fernández Vara has recognized the importance of reducing the travel time with Madrid, but has assured that “what is going to transform our reality is that merchandise will circulate along those same routes”.

Finally, the president of Extremadura has pointed out that “when one sees these things, one is reconciled with taxes”, which allow paying for public investments such as the new railway line between Plasencia and Badajoz.
