The notification on your mobile that will be activated from this summer and that you will never want to receive

This way your mobile phone will inform you of any emergency or catastrophe in your area.

If we have learned anything in recent years, it is that different catastrophes that we thought were only possible in movies have come true, we are not only talking about the pandemic, but also about snowstorms capable of stopping a country for days, and even eruptions of volcanoes such as the Cumbre Vieja in La Palma.

That is why more than ever, the citizen must have a way to be notified of any type of catastrophe or incident that exists in their area to save life, and that is why the General Directorate of Civil Protection and Emergencieswhich belongs to the Ministry of the Interior, is going to launch this summer the “system of warnings to the population”.

Although this system was originally going to be based on the emission of SMS, Finally, it will bet on Cell Broadcast technology, that is to say, the diffusion by cell that is based on the emission of radio messages to alert all the devices that are connected.

As reported by the newspaper ElPaís, this system is in real time, occupies very little bandwidth and is automatic for all devices that are in the affected area. Unlike the SMS that can take several hours to arrive, it is an immediate delivery.

When we talk about these notices reaching all citizens in the area, we are not only talking about those who have a telephone registered in our country, but also any foreign citizen such as tourists who are passing through, and with any smartphone, always that is compatible with the system.

These messages will be received in Spanish, in the co-official language according to the community, and in an international language that is expected to be English. On the other hand, if a large number of foreign tourists were detected in an area, the message could also be transmitted in an additional fourth language.

As you have seen in the video above this paragraph, these alerts consist of in an alarm sound accompanied by a pop-up message such as a normal mobile notification, but will not disappear from the screen until the user confirms that they have read it. Apparently the sound will also not stop playing over and over again until the user reads the message.

It would be like the 112 service but in reverse, where it is the authorities themselves who contact the users, and not the other way around.

At the moment it is unknown which operating systems will be compatible with this Emergency Warning technology, although it is likely that if you have a mobile phone purchased in recent years, there will be no compatibility problem.

It should be clarified that in the event of any warning of catastrophe, not only will this system be used, but also traditional media such as radio and television they must inform about the event, although obviously this new telephone system is much faster and more immediate.

These alerts by diffusion by cell will be issued automatically from 20 centers, specifically 112 of each Autonomous Community and the Emergency Coordination Center of the General Directorate of Civil Protection.

This system will only be used at alert levels 1 and 2 of the three levels established by the current Civil Protection Protocol. In this way, both the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano and the Filomena storm, which reached level 2, would have used this system in the affected areas.
